Eith you have not set the camera up correctly study thew manual - it is not unusual to have a black and white setting. If you are sure you have got it right Then contact Nikon - this is a CCD failure.

How do I take pictures in black and white with my nikon coolpix s220?

Press the Auto button (camera icon). Press the MENU button to bring up the shooting menu. Select "Color Options" then select "Black-and-White".

Unless you're just snapshooting, I recommend shooting in color and then converting to black-and-white using photo-editing software on a computer. You get much better control over contrast, brightness, etc. than what the camera gives you.

How to take photos in black and white for Nikon 40dx? What is the normal setting of Nikon 40dx? Please send me a manual for Nikon 40dx?

Here's the manual (free download)
http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-instructions-owner-manual/NIKON/D40X-_E

Black and white is a menu option......

Select > Shooting menu
Select > Optimise image
Select > Black and white

Page 68 of the manual has full details of other options.

Note that you can also change photos to black and white in good post processing packages (such as Adobe Photoshop), although invariably there is some quality loss over original capture.

Printer

Depends on what you are doing, to print black and white documents only it is better an monochrome laser. To print photos, few color and black and white documents for a home users is generally better an inkjet.
Good color laser are big and expensive.

Laser toners cartridge cost a bit more but last longer.

Generally, if you print only B&W, it is better a laser.
If you print some documents and you want to print photos, then get a good inkjet.
If you want to print loads of B&W and color, and you do not need to print photos, then you can buy a color laser.

How do i change a Nikon D70 to black and white

The Nikon D70 does not have a black-and-white mode setting.

However, you can take your photo in color and then use software to convert it to a grayscale photo. (Black and white implies an image with only those two values per pixel; grayscale can have 8 to 16 bits per pixel.) Most photo editing packages have a "desaturate" feature that does an automated conversion to grayscale.

The open source image editor Gimp has a "channel mixer" dialog that would allow you to approximate the effect of various filters before performing the desaturate function. This would allow you to experiment with the procedures if you do not have a commercial photo editor like Adobe PhotoShop. There is a special wrapper of Gimp that puts its interface into a configuration like that of PhotoShop; look for "GimpShop". The open source image manipulation package ImageMagick may also be used if you prefer working with command line utilities.

Taking a black and white photo.

You can't, there is no black and white mode on the D50. You will need to take color photos and convert them with photo editing tool.

Pictures

I think it's one or the other because the camera doesn't know what you want to color and what you don't want to color. Thats something more for Photoshop to do.
