Question about Kirby Generation 3 Bagged Upright Vacuum

Power problem I just recently moved into a new house and sometime during that move my Kirby Generation 3 vacuum has quit working. I used it last at my old house just before I moved, then loaded it up in the back of my truck, took it 20 miles to my new house and about three weeks later plug it in to use it, and nothing. No light comes on or anything. I thought there would be a power reset button somewhere on the machine that I could try, but I couldn't find one anywhere. Do you know of a reset swith or button anywhere on a Kirby Generation 3 vacuum? Or if you have any other idea of what might be the problem please enlighten me. Thanks, Justin

Either a bad switch or cord.

    If you can't fix the power problem, you need to take your vacuum to a repair shop. Or, buy a Kirby vacuum that works GOOD.

How To Attach The Carpet Shampooer Cleaning Attachment Kirby Generation 3 (G3).
Hello,

This is an excellent, easy to follow video presentation of attaching the carpet cleaner to your Kirby Generation 3 Upright Vacuum Cleaner. Please note that the model being used in the video is a newer model named the Sentria, but the process of attaching the carpet extractor attachment is identical on the Kirby Sentria and the Kirby Generation 3. The only major difference is that the Generation 3 does not have the lever that extends out to turn the belt to off. On the Generation 3 this is dont by turning the entire white square with the Kirby logo on it in the front of the vacuum cleaner.

Please feel free to ask for a repair clarification if you have a question on how to attach the carpet shampooer. I'm always, more then happy to answer any follow up questions there may be.

Kirby G# handle leans to the front of the vac and when you vacuum it tries to move to fast and front pops up
A pin secures the handle in place securely. Is it missing?

We have a kirby generation 3 and it slows down and speeds up almost sounds like it is going do quit could this be a brush problem in the motor sometimes it will quit.

G3 was made 1990 -1993. Kirby sales people make big fuzz about Kirby vacuums sold online saying that it must be stolen to be so cheap. They probably just want to find distributors who sell new Kirby vacuums online so they are trying to get a serial number. If it was stolen prior owned must have reported it to Kirby Company and this is very unlikely even thought it is possible.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. In order to replace the brushroll on the Kirby G3 you need to dial off the belt and then release the lever to remove the bell housing, then there are 2 levers that you need to open then you can get @ the brushroll --- take out the brushroll and replace the brushroll and a new belt – make sure you change the belt every 4 to 6 months for the best cleaning. Make sure when you put the new belt in the housing that the screw heads are facing down – then you can replace the bottom plate, dial the belt on to the belt pulley and replace the bell housing. If you need further help please refer to a local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area. Hello, I have a Generation 3 Kirby- it was working - I turned it off & it will not turn on again - is there a safety switch /reset button or did the on/off switch go out - I have had it 15 years & replaced the switch 1 time - Thanks

The safety switch is in the front of the fan housing of witch the bell housing hooks into. Both are about the same price plus labor.
