Could someone please tell me how to take the base apart so I can remove the beater bar to clean it. This is an upright. I can't seem to see how to take it apart and do not want to break it.
Thank you for any help

If you lay it down and look under the base- by the brush roll- there are three screws you have to remove w/ a philips head screwdriver to get the base plate off. From there you can take out the brush roll, etc.

Hi, The belt of our Dirt devil bagless vaccum broke and we got new belt and replaced it. Even after replacing the belt, the brush is not rotating. Any suggestions please ?

Did you check to see that the beater brush, the brush that the belt drives, is free of debris and moves freely? When they bind up they can cause the belt to break. Remove the beater brush just as you do when changing the belt and clean as best you can. There are retainer clips at each end of the brush, add some WD40 between the clips and the beater brush and turn by hand to free it up. Reassemble making sure the belt is on in the proper manner so that the brush will turn in the correct direction. If you find this solution helpful, I would appreciate a Thumbs Up from you!
Thank you. Paul

The rubber belts I put on keeps burning when I first put it on, it gets so hot on the metal bar I hook it to, that it splits it it two..how do I fix this???

Sounds like the beater bar is clogged with something. Try removing it and cleaning it up, sometimes hair gets wrapped around it and puts it in such a bind that it will burn the belt.

How do you change the belt of the m5088520?

Hi There,

Here's step by step instructions for you on how to replace the belt on your Dirt Devil M088520 Featherlite.

Flip cleaner to expose nozzle base. Base should lay flat and face up. To remove nozzle guard, use Phillips
screwdriver to remove the two screws. Arrows (Diagram 1) show location of screws.

Lift nozzle guard off. Slide belt off motor shaft
(Diagram 2).

The hand cleaner picks up dirt but the floor cleaner does not.

A couple ideas.

1. Have you emptied your dirt?
2. Are your filters clean?
3. Is your roller brush working and if not, is your belt broken?
Hope this helps and good luck!

Vacuum making loud noise

It could be 1 of 3 things:

1. The belt2_bing.gif that drives the beater bar. (Inexpensive)

2. An impeller that has a broken wing or 2, throwing it off balance. (Expensive)

3. Or, the bearings in the motor are going out. (Expensive)

Hope this helps,

Beater bar in my dirt devil vision wobbles around the center shaft. Took of beater bar and it sounds like sand in it when shaken. Can this be disassembled?

from your description, if your beater bar was wobblying, ther may be more damage to the base of the vac than initially seen. Dirt Devil has different number of warranties in number of years for thier vacuums. I would check with your nearest dealer. Lookup at dirtdevil.com

HOW DO YOU CHANGE THE BELT ON A DIRT DEVIL VISION VACUUM CLEANER?

With the vacuum unplugged, turn the machine beater bar side up. Locate the clips or screws that hold the plate over the beater bar and remove the plate. The beater bar sits in sockets just inside. Be careful in removing it; take your time and note how it comes out...this will make reassembly easier. Clean the debris while you have tha bar off and remove any debris thet you see in the vacuum hose area behind the bar....The new belt slips over the motor shaft behind the beater bar (further up in the cavity behind the b/b), then you slip it back onto the beater bar as you place the bar back nto the sockets. Test your work by revolving the bar a bit to make sure that everything is back in place. Replace the plate.
