Pavilion dv4 1220us blink code 1

Will not boot up. All lights are on and caps lock/num lock lights blink once repeatedly. Have tried hard reset, booting holding F2,F8,F10,F11 etc. Nothing works. Have attached monitor. When I turn on power I hear the fan and drives start but then silence yet all lights stay on.

Have you unplugged, remove battery, plug in, reboot? Try another Cord/Charger with the EXACT same power specs. Has there been any damage to the AC jack due to pulling on the cord while plugged in? Verify your DC voltage at cord plug that fits into the AC laptop jack. Have you reseated/replaced the Memory Mods? The CMOS battery? The HDD ? It sounds like a Power issue as it the Cord/Charger/AC/DC Transformer? Hard to say from here without a MultiMeter to verify. Look at HP support: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documentSubCategory?tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3860431

Testimonial: "I bought a new CMOS battery and installed it today... no luck. I guess the CPU is bad according to the blink codes. 1 blink every 1.5 secs. I've held down the arrow keys, all the 'F' buttons and nothing happens. The only thing left is getting some air to blow out the vents and then I'll give up. Thanks for your suggestions."

Here's a video to assist you, try cleaning out the fan, vents, heatsink: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xFM3pvAB... You may want to remove the HDD and test along with reseating/replace the Memory mods and replacing the CMOS battery:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docum... .

SOURCE: hp pavilion dv5 wont start. the monitor remains

This unit should still be in warranty. If out of the first year warranty, HP has extended the warranty program for Video issues for a extra year from date of purchase.
Register your unit with HP, if not already and email customer care and log your video issue, ASAP.
I hope this has helped you.

Laptop LED Blink on Startup
There are many reasons that a computer does not startup or boot into the Windows operating system. If your computer will not start or boot, you will see or hear symptom to indicate the general area of the problem.
Startup Symptom: LEDs blink but does not start
The blinking LED lights on newer computers, or the beep tones on older computers, will help support agent determine what hardware component is not responding properly. The exact meaning of each code varies with the model, and the user cannot change any of the blink or beep codes.
DO THESE FIRST - Perform a hard reset.
If a PC suddenly fails to boot properly, you should perform a hard reset as the first procedure.
1. Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and media cards. You want to test the computer not the accessories!
2. Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery and then press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds.
3. Reconnect the AC power adapter (but do not connect the battery), Press the Power button, Look for glowing LEDs near caps lock and num lock keys, and Listen for sounds of a disk drive and fan turning.
Identify the number of blinks or beeps
When there is a start-up problem and you see LED lights on the keyboard blink a few times (between 1 and 8 blinks) do the following actions.
Table of Sample Blink Codes
The following table illustrates the meaning of blink codes used on some notebooks. The blink or beep codes on your computer may have different meanings.
Meaning of Sample Blink Codes for some EFI Notebooks:
1) Number of Blink: Continuous Glow, Blinking LED: Battery power LED, Component: Battery,
Error Condition: The AC adapter is attached and the battery is charging, but does not yet have sufficient charge to power the notebook.
2) Number of Blink: 1, Blinking LED: Caps Lock/Num Lock, Component: CPU,
Error Condition: CPU not functional
3) Number of Blink: 2, Blinking LED: Caps Lock/Num Lock, Component: BIOS,
Error Condition: BIOS corruption failure
4) Number of Blink: 3, Blinking LED: Caps Lock/Num Lock, Component: Memory,
Error Condition: Module error not functional
5) Number of Blink: 4, Blinking LED: Caps Lock/Num Lock, Component: Graphics,
Error Condition: Graphics controller not functional.
6) Number of Blink: 5, Blinking LED: Caps Lock/Num Lock, Component: system board,
Error Condition: General system board failure.
7) Number of Blink: 6, Blinking LED: Caps Lock/Num Lock, Component: BIOS,
Error Condition: BIOS authentication failure.
8) Number of Blink: Continuous blink, Blinking LED: AC power adapter LED, Component: Power adapter,
Error Condition: Insufficient power
Common solutions for issues that cause blinking LEDs or beep tones
When the computer can boot into the BIOS, run the memory test to identify other issues.
Check for loose connections and test the memory
Blink codes are often displayed after a user adds memory to the computer but does not seat the module properly. The LEDs may also blink error codes if a hardware component is loose because the computer was dropped or jarred. The problem could be that the stick of memory or one of the memory slots has a bad connection.
Check for loose memory modules
If a memory module is loose or is not making good contact with the memory slots, the computer does not recognize all of the memory. Reseating the memory module may resolve memory failure errors.

On My Dv5-1125nr both the caps lock and num lock keeps blinking when i turn it on. It's wont boot at all. What kind of hardware problem is this?

First remove the battery and power cord for about a minute. Then plug back in and see if that helps. Otherwise please read the following:

LEDs near Caps Lock and Number Lock keys blink when starting notebook The LED lights near the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys will blink if an error is detected during the start up process. The LEDs will blink a number of times in a sequence and then stop. The number of blinks in the sequence indicates what component caused an error when it was being tested during start up. If the LEDs stop blinking and the computer does not start, you can press the power button again to repeat the tests. Count the number of blinks, and use the chart to identify the error condition. Knowing the number of blinks is helpful when you contact an HP support agent for technical help. Power light comes on but not working

First you need to determine how many blinks you are getting when you try to power on the laptop. Check the blinking codes below and reason behind that for HP Compaq laptops Blinking battery power LED Battery Insufficient charge on the battery Blink: 1 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - CPU CPU not functional Blink: 2 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - BIOS BIOS corruption failure Blink: 3 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - Memory Module error not functional Blink: 4 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - Graphics Graphics controller not functional Blink: 5 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - System board General system board failure Blink: 6 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - BIOS BIOS authentication failure You need to first Remove the memory module (RAM)- Try to power on the laptop ? then again reset it and try to power on. Check whether it is coming on or not. try the same procedure with Hard drive. If laptop is getting power on after removing one of the device then we can be sure that that particular device is faulty and we can change that then? HP DV6110us: 4 beeps, no boot

besides the beeps which indicate a motherboard timing issue. There should be LED blinking codes given on the front LEDs. I will include the blink codes below, but lets try to at least get the system up and running. First, I would like you to remove the RAM sticks from the laptop and just reseat one stick back in the machine. Try to boot with that one stick, if it does not, try the other alone. There have been issues when reseating the ram or re-installing it have temp. fixed the issue. If it does reboot, go to the HP support site, put in your model number of your laptop and download and install an updated BIOS. Below are the blink codes that may narrow down the problem.....
