I have a blue shadow. I tried the convergence screens and can't get the blue to move in the right direction. the set is 8 years old and the service center wants $500.00 to repair it...........Please help!
If the blue color is curving inward on one side, this is caused by one of the convergence IC's which has burned out. There are 2 large black convergence IC's mounted on large metal heat sinks and one of them will have to be replaced and that should be done by someone experienced in repairing and realigning convergence circuits. Some shops prefer to go ahead and replace both at the same time, removing the STK392-110's and installing 2 updated STK392-150's, which is not such a bad idea. When I do a housecall to repair a set like that I charge $150, since the IC's are about $7 each and it takes about an hour to change them, so ask around the shops in your area and see if anyone's price is better than $500, which sounds way too high.
