The player was working fine today, and then I plugged it in the recharge and it froze when it said 'rebuilding library'. After about 10 minutes, I unplugged it and tried to shut it down. I ended up removing the battery and then turning it on again, which left me with the message 'Hardware Problem'. I tried to access the player in Rescue Mode, but that won't work. It will not go past the 'Hardware Problem' message. Is this repairable, or do I just buy a new one? I did end up getting a new MP3 player. Luckily for me, I purchased the Creative Labs player on my Mastercard, which carries an extended product warranty. I was reimbursed $139 for the player, though I paid over $300, they only gave me the current replacement value. Getting back something is better then nothing though, so I put up a little extra cash of my own and got an 8gb iPod Nano. Much better..no complaints with this one. Will never go with Creative Labs again after all the problems they've had and their lousy excuse for customer service.
Had the same problem w/1st zen, lasted less than two weeks
circuit city traded me a new one, have found creative labs to be no help w/o charging for it.

hi sorry to hear that, i have one that is still giving me great sound. i do have a suspicion on your problem. i once tried a different usb cord on some of my mp3 players. all cords are not equal. perhaps the usb cord that you are useing does not transfer power. i have cords that do not transfer files, just power. good luck-- i do like the sound of this product

I panicked when my Zen failed to start and sent the email before looking further on your site. All I had to do was go into recovery mode perform a clean and then all worked OK.
