Question about Sharp AL 1631 Copier

1 Answer

Copy quality always light

Every copy on this machine is too light. I have replaced the toner with no change. It is practically new. It is also the fourth replacement. I suspect the machine needs to be cleaned but i can't find instructions on how to do it. I am capable of cleaning it without damaging the mirrors, etc. but would like to have a procedure. Second problem, which I have been living with, is that after a few hours of not being used, the first copy I make causes a paper jam. after the first copy, it feeds fine. ???

Are you using a genuine OEM Sharp toner and drum? The paper pick-up rollers could use a good cleaning. Try a little WD 40 on a cotton cloth and clean the d shaped rollers. Also the feed clutch could be sticking. You have to take the back covers off to see the clutch. Clean and put some light grease on it. Easy parts to order and not expensive.

Copier quality

Hi,

Most fax machines would have a resolution selector to vary clarity of transmitted documents. The same would also hold true for scanning jobs. I would discount the possibility of the power supply since everything works except for the quality of the copy/fax. If the printer still works OK (quality of print out) then it is the scanner's availability to copy that is the issue. With current prices of all in one printers (fax/scanner), purchase of a new unit might be more practical not only in terms of cost but in downtime.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Our copier is copying in light shade. how to make it darker

To adjust the default lighter/darker setting

1. On the LaserJet 3015, press MENU/ENTER.

2. Use the < or the > button to select Copy setup, and then press MENU/ENTER.

3. Use the < or the > button to select Def. Light/Dark, and then press MENU/ENTER.

4. Use the < or the > button to adjust the setting. Move the slider to the left to make all of the

copies lighter than the original, or move the slider to the right to make all of the copies

darker than the original.
5. Press MENU/ENTER to save the selection.

Page 48 of the User Guide has instructions for adjusting the light/dark setting during a copy job.

Also see the Troubleshooting section of the User Guide for other possible reasons for light/faded copies.

If your copies continue to come out too light, you may need to clean the insert a new toner cartridge or change brands of toner. I tried several "generic" toner cartridges and refills, but my prints and copies were always faded or streaky. After going back to genuine HP cartridges, I haven't had any print quality problems.

Our Sharp AL 1631 copier has served us well for about 5 of the last 7 years or so. The last two years, copies are very very light - no matter what the settings, and there is always lots of loose toner...

As long as it is dirty inside the nachine, you will continue to have problems with copy quality' The light copies are from dust in your optics.

Basically, the machine needs aGOOD Cleaning, inside and out..Yes, it will cost you a service call, but that should clear up your issues. Be careful, and ask the tech/company what a good cleaning consists. Be srecific with describing your problems, like you did here.

Good Luck

P.S. if you have in house tech, let me know. I can tell them how to get into everything on the machine.

Poor copy quality - smudgy copies - changed toner - still the same.

check your OPC drum life, if you have a poor quality with a new cartridge installed (light copy, dirty copy) the opc drum must be replaced, check you machine counter if you have reach 100k copies you need to replace the drum, if you are using a new OPC DRUM, you need to clean the machine, you have to call for service because there is many parts that muat removed to clean properly.

Canon ir5000 copies have horizonal bands of light copy quality. How do I get even, good quality down the entire page?

The machine probably needs a service paying attention to the development and the cleaning areas. Also, clean or replace the corona wires and check that there is no flat spots on the fuser roller.

The add toner light stays on with a new toner cartridge

Yes, the machine will only make single copies if the toner light is on. Was the toner cart genuine Copystar? Or perhaps Kyocera cart? The machine is made by Kyocera and marketed under both name brands, however, the toner carts are different for both machines. I have seen many times that aftermarket carts will not always work properly.

Poor quality of copies

If it is a real genuine Brother toner. Not a reman. You may also need to change the drum. If you have a user manual, it will show you where the drum life setting is in the menu structure. Make sure the little glass window inside on the right is clean so it can read the toner level. Make sure the toner save feature is turned off.
