I purchased my television about 3 years ago at Sam's Club and really never had a problem with it until a couple months ago. The tv shuts off in the middle of any program without any warning. I can turn it on again and it will turn on but will shut off again. This will happen several times until it does not turn on again.

I've read online that upgrading to the latest firmware sometimes resolves this issue. That's kind of shooting in the dark though - I personally would not feel completely confident that a FW flash would actually resolve the issue (as it could still be lurking beneath somewhere, waiting to surface again). If you have no warranty, then the FW flash is not a bad option. It's relatively easy and virtually impossible to screw up!
If you're still under warranty, then I imagine you've figured out by now that you'll need to contact Sharp to fix this issue. Mine was luckily under the extended (15-month) factory warranty when this first happened to me. I was 13+ months out from date of purchase. Sharp support confirmed a tech needed to come out for an all-day appointment to troubleshoot the TV. Thank goodness for the extra 3 month warranty I got when signing up for the Aquos Advantage club! Otherwise, my $3400 investment might have cost me at least $700-$800 to fix - only a year out from purchase!
Same Problem. TV was purchased from Sams Club about 2 or 3 years ago. workede great unti llast week. We were watching tv and it just shut off. The power button on the tv started to get soft were you had to push hard or just use the remote. My guess its something with the wsitch.
I have a Samsung 50" plasma, that has been blacking out over the last 6 months. A 9/2005 set. Now its practically unwatchable as it happens 3 times in an hour. Its not heat related - I have a high volume 9" fan activated on TV power on. Turning the set offf/on usually makes it come back for a now short while. Considering to go put it in the back of my pickup and park it in front of Best Buy and discourage Samsung purchases. This is the 2nd Samsung TV I've purchased (the other a 32" tube) I gave to my folks a couple years ago and its gone bad as well. Samsung product may look good, but their video engineers are not.
Normally warranty does not cover this kind of physical damage to your lcd screen. First check with your vendor to confirm. To replace the lcd panel is very expensive, may cost you as much as to buy a new one.
