SOURCE: power LED on but no boot up

it could be your power switch, veriy that it isnt the power supply by

1.) un-plug it from the main board
2.) look at the main board connector(one coming of the power supply)
3.) you should see green wire and next to it a black one
4.) using a paper clip bridge the too wires
5.) if it works proceed to net step if not get a new power supply

to check case switch and board switch

1.) plug in power supply to main board
2.) look at the pins where the power button connects to
3.) using a metal object (blade screw driver) bridge the pins

if the board should start up>
then its your power button on the case that is bad, you can try to repair it, chage it or buy a new case,

if it doesnt work.
1.) ensure that jcms(jumper to flash the bios) is set correctly
2.) unjack each drive one at a time to see if any is causing stalling
3.) get a new main board

Need the wiring diagram for the FP1 Header on LGA775 672M01-1.1-8EKSH DDR2 SATA Motherboard

http://www.ascendtech.us/foxconn-lga775-672m01-1-1-8eksh-ddr2_i_mb4672m0118eksh.aspx

Better photos,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FOXCONN-LGA775-672M01-8EKSH-DDR2-SATA-PCIE-MOTHERBOARD-/250896116650

Go to the photo under the Specifications. Shows a Top view, and the Front Panel header. (FP1)

Note the colored areas on FP1 for the different contact pins.
The pins in the Red area should be for the Power On switch.
Suggest take an LED with two wires, and Briefly touch those two pins.

Power supply comes on touch the pins in the other colored areas.
1) LED light stays on? That's the two pins for the Power On LED.
2) LED light blinks? That's the two pins for the HarDDrive activity LED light.
3) Computer restarts? That's the two pins for the Restart switch.
(IF a Restart switch is used)

Need IBM motherboard 29R8260 front panel controls

John,

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.
The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the main wires from the Front panel go to, is the Front Panel header.

What you need is a Front panel header pinout.

This I do not have. What I do have, is a simplistic method that may allow you to find out, what the pinout is.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-ThinkCentre-M51-29R8260-Socket-775-Motherboard-w-P4-3GHz-SL7PU-/390456414497?_trksid=p4340.m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%252BC%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D15%26pmod%3D260995444535%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D1437936870868306373&_qi=RTM1062688

Looking at the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the ThinkCentre M51, (It also uses this mobo), the Front Panel header is to the right of the Ram Memory slots. (Processor to the left, Ram Memory slots at the Top)

Looking at the Ebay link, there are three views available. Click on the middle view. In the view photo the Front Panel header is the black rectangle below the Yellow ram memory slots.

Two rows of pins.
Power Supply plugged into power, use an LED light with two wires.
Go across the top row, and touch the first set of two pins next to each other.

No? Go on. Touch the next set of two pins. I'm willing to bet the third set of two pins is the Power On switch pins.
(Could be mistaken, however)

The contact made should be brief. The Power On switch is a Momentary Contact Switch.
Once the Power Supply comes on, wait a minute, then start testing the other pins.

LED light blinks? You have the HarDDrive activity LED pins.
LED light stays steady? You have the Power On LED pins.

Be aware however, that there may be 3 pins for the Power On LED.
Two Positive ( + ) pins, and one Negative ( - ) pin. This is for a dual color Power On LED. (Turbo mode/ Regular mode)
This would mean touching the first pin, or second pin, in the set of 3 pins, and the last pin in the set.

Computer restarts? You have the 2 pins for a Reset Switch.
(Do NOT touch the Power On switch pins again, or the computer may restart)

Not what I would like to state. Would like to state the exact pinout.
Perhaps if you get this figured out, you might take the time to post the pinout. Crude is fine, I can 'clean it up'. This way 100's to 1000's of people may be able to use your findings. Think how many people you would help.

Front panel wiring diagram ie power switch reset switch etc

HP Support > Compaq Presario SR5501F > Motherboard Specifications,

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01237538&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3740354

The motherboard is made by ECS for HP/Compaq
ECS model number is MCP61PM-HM
HP/Compaq's name is Iris 8.

There is no wiring diagram per se to give you.
I'll have to detail the wiring connections step by step for you.
This may be a little lengthy.

On the link above you are looking at a photo of your motherboard.
There is also an illustration available.
I would like you to copy, and save them both.

Using this method you will be able to enlarge them for further clarity, of the connections to the motherboard.

Right-click on the motherboard photo. Left-click on Save Image As, in the list.
In the Save Image window that comes up, you will see the heading File name:
To the right of File name: will be c01237541.

Unless you want to search for c01237541 you may wish to do this:

Put your mouse cursor after the 1 in c01237541.
Left-click twice.
Make one space with your spacebar.

Type Compaq Presario SR5501F Mobo photo.
(Mobo stands for MOtherBOard)

You want this photo to go to your My Pictures folder.
(Windows XP. Different for Vista)
At the top of the Save Image window is the heading - Save in:
In the box to the right you should see - My Pictures

If you do Not you will have to change the destination.

Left-click on the blue down arrow to the right of the box.
In the list, left-click on - My Documents, then left-click on - My Pictures.
Now go to the bottom right of the Save Image window, and left-click on Save.

In the link, scrolling down you will see the heading - Motherboard layout
Left-click on the + sign next to Motherboard layout.
Copy and save it as you did for the motherboard photo.

In the File name: box type - Compaq Presario SR5501F Mobo Illustration.

Now all you have to do is go to your My Pictures folder (Start>My Pictures), and double-click on the photo, or illustration.
Left-click on the Zoom In icon at the bottom of the window to enlarge.
(+ sign in a magnifying glass icon)

Wiring Connections to the Motherboard:

A) Front Panel header: (Panel 1)

The Front Panel, is the plastic front of your computer where the Power On button, HarDDrive LED light, and Power On LED light is located.

The Front Panel header is the connections, or pins, on the motherboard, where the cables (Wires) go to from the Front Panel.

On the motherboard illustration it is marked as Panel 1.
(Down in the bottom right corner)

On your motherboard, Panel 1 (Front Panel header) is Black in color.
As you can see it is a rectangular block, and is placed vertically.
Has 2 columns of pins.
5 in the left column, 4 in the right column.

The Left column is numbered Odd.
Starting at the Top going down, Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9

The Right column is numbered Evenly.
Starting at the top going down, Pins 2, 4, 6, and 8.

Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive LED light.
(HDD activity LED)
Pin 1 is for the Positive connection ( + )

Pins 5 and 7 are for the Reset switch.
Pin 7 is for the Positive connection. ( + )

Pin 9 is reserved, and may not be used.

Pins 2 and 4 are for the Message LED light. (LED = Light Emitting Diode)
Power On LED light.

Pins 6 and 8 are for the Power On switch.
There is No Pin 10.

If the cables (Wires) are not marked coming from the Front Panel, you will have to remove the Front Panel, and trace where they go.

You will be able to physically see where wires go to the Power On switch, Power On LED light, HarDDrive activity LED

Emachine t1840 wiring diagram power switch wire to mother board ?

Because there are so many different case and motherboard combinations sometimes it can be difficult following the instructions for connecting the front panel, USB header and audio header.

Below is a few generic guide that should stop some of the confusion with the labels on the wires.

***Please note this is a generic wiring guide and we can not guarantee it will work with every motherboard. Please check your motherboard manual first. Wiring the headers wrong can cause damage to the motherboard and case, this damage is not covered by the warranty***

another handy USB wiring guide can be found here http://www.directron.com/installusb.html

this maybe easier to follow
