Question about Tomtom GO 300 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Tom tom The screen on my tom tom is "off". The letters on the left hand side (as you look at the screen) aren't useable, rather if you type i you get j. I called Tom Tom and they aren't servicing the older models (wow, its just 2 years old) but offered me a deal on a new upgrade. Unfortunately that is more expensive through them than the street price elsewhere. I have reset the device with no change. Any ideas?

When the TomTom is switched on the whole display area has moved over to the left therefore the first column of number or letters are not accessible. Tried to reset but still the same.

That sounds like there is something stuck in the edges of the touchscreen...

try & run a toothbrush or your finger nail or a piece of paper flat against the screen & run it 360 around the edges of the screen...

Failing that buy another faulty one with different issues from an auction site & chop & change the faulty parts.

as you are out of warranty it wont matter.

Garmin nuvi 1200 wont let me type the right letters

Try recalibrating the touchscreen. The procedure can be found here:

http://www.sharc.net/discus/messages/6/77.html?1315261162

Turn off the Nuvi. Place your finger on the upper left-hand corner of the screen and then push down on the power button to turn the unit on. Release the power button when the Garmin logo appears. Continue to press on the upper left-hand corner of the screen until you see the calibration screen.

Press each dot to recalibrate the screen.

Once completed the Nuvi will display Calibration Complete

Touch screen gives wrong letters when touched

Hi, Try using something like a stylus to type in the letters. I've found with gps' that the touch screens aren't that accurate and almost all fingers are too big to properly type in anything and since a stylus (or even a stick) is much smaller it should be more accurate.

I have an ibm personal wheelwriter. When typing on the right hand side of a page, the bottom part of the letter is not being typed. When typing on the left hand side, everything is OK.

The platen is not fully seated in the side frame. Press down firmly on the platen it should pop into place. Occasionally the black latches crack and the platen needs to be replaced.

Tom Tom 720 keeps jumping to main menu

Well I finally figured it out for those who might run across this problem.

It seems that when it got hot and expanded the grey bezel around the screen would touch the screen just enough to activate it. I gently pried the bezel up just a bit and it seems to have solved the problem.

Memory Card Reader

You should find your SD card listed as a drive type 'Devices with Removable Storage' in Windows explorer. To find, click on the Windows Start button (lower left-hand corner of your screen) and click on 'Computer' on the right-hand side of the menu that pops up.

A quicker way to bring this up is to press the Windows key on your keyboard (usually located between the Ctrl and Alt keys on the left-hand side) and the letter 'E' .

Once open you should see your SD card listed under drive type 'Devices with Removable Storage'. Double-click on it to open and see the photos on the card.
