Re: fridg no longer making ice or water
It could be a frozen filter. If it is a fridgidair made unit they did have that problem with the filter freezing and put a fix kit out to correct it. you also should check he water valves make sure you are getting power to them when you press the water arm. If its electronic it could be a bad dispensor control bord. with kenmore its hard to say because different manufactures make there products.

You dont say if it quick making ice. First check to see if water is coming to the fridge from under the sink. If so that is a two chamber valve on the back of the fridge one side water for drinking and one fror ice making check the two coils. That probably has to be repaced. If its still making ice but not comming out the a swithc or lever is not activating in the door.
If you have both ice and water stopping you have a water supply issue.
Water enters under city pressure through an eighth inch supply line.
Start simple and work from there.
If the fridge was moved the line can get kinked. Slide the fridge out and check you have water to it. You can loosen the supply line connection just a little and you should see water leaking. If not it is a plumbing issue in the house. Most likely a the supply line is kinked or possibly someone closed the shutoff valve to the fridge.
OK so we have water to the fridge.
Water comes in and connects to a water filter and then to the door.
If the filter is badly clogged it can cause low pressure to the door and that would cause the problem. Check the filter.
If no go still then check where the water is stopping.
Remove the from cover from under the unit. That is the plastic grate at the bottom of the fridge. It will just pull off but be gentle and take your time so as not to break anything.
Water supply will run through a clear plastic hose. It runs to the filter then to the bottom of the freezer door and up through the door.
You can sometimes see where the water has stopped and clear or replace parts as needed.
There is a connection just before entering the door from the filter. You can loosen that to see if you have water to that point.
If you have water past the filter the problem is in the ice maker and water supply inside the freezer door. Water can leak here, expand, and crack plastic parts easily.
If there is water to the door then you need to dig into that. This gets a little more complex to describe but in short take the ice maker out and check for water supply or broken parts. The problem is probably before the ice maker as your water in the door is not working. This indicates it is not just the ice maker.
I have not found Kenmore to do the best with the icemakers; however, you want to make sure that the lever on the side was replaced properly. They have a slot that they need to go into. The other thing that is important is to see if the motor is running on the ice maker. It could be at fault, but if that is the case those units usually are better off replaced as a whole, which runs around $200. You will probably get them cheaper through an appliance dealor rather than going through Sears and there probably is one in your yellow page section of your phone book...hope this helps.
Most water dispensing fridges have a tank in the fridge to keep the water cold. If the fridge temp is too low it might freeze the tank and stop the water from dispensing. Also check the water filter to make sure it is not frozen. Water filters should be replaced every 6-12 months, if it's been longer than that it might be too full of dirt to allow water past. It also might be the water inlet valve is not opening.
MAKE SURE THE ICEMAKER IS ON,ON OFF BUTTON OR LEVER IN DOWN POSITION,CHECK TUBE BEHIND ICE MAKER PULL IT OUT LOOK IN IT LOOK IN FREEZER HOLE TO MAKE SURE IT'S NOT FROZE UP,CHECK WATER INLET VALVE ON LOWER BACK OF FRIG.,LOOSEN CONNECTION TO SEE IF GETTING WATER,IF WATER IS COMING OUT IT IS A BAD WATER VALVE ONLY ONE SIDE TO WATER DISPENSER IS WORKING,VALVE IS NOT OPENIBG TO ICEMAKER SIDE,THANKS-MIKE
