The top agitator is not working, the bottom is fine.

Everything works fine except for the top agitator seems to be broken or not engaging.

From the pics you can see all you need to do is remove the agitator. Snatch it apart and replace the plastic dogs. Then snap it back together and replace it. And they all lived happily ever after.

Agitator not working . The machine fills but never starts agitating. The spin cycle seems to work fine.

Remove the agitator and the plastic block at the top of the agitator post. Look inside the plastic block to see if the splines have been damaged. If so, replace the block.

Agitator: bottom moves, top does not

If the bottom agitates and not the top, the problem is likely the 4 "agitator dogs" designed to allow the top agitator to turn only one way.

On the Sears parts site:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.26902691&pop=flush

replace the 110.26902691 with your model number (lift the lid and the model number should be printed on the cabinet) and look at the section on the Sears site for Agitator, basket and tub.

This is what they look like:

pd_26_110_80040?$pddetailsth$ #21 on diagram Dog, agitator (4) Number:3366877Substitution:80040 $9.25Remove the fabric softener unit, lift the top agitator cap (use a screwdriver) and you should see a plastic part in the center of the top agitator with a 1/2" square drive.

Remove the drive and lift off the top agitator. Turning it over you should see the 4 "dogs", replace these and the top agitator should turn in one direction only.

Replace the 1/2" drive, the cap and fabric softener unit and the top agitator should work.

Top half of agitator turns free (does not agitate)

You will need a set of agitator dogs. Pull off your agitator cap and look under it, you will see 4(four)small tabs that catch and release the top 1/2 of the agitator.

Good Luck!

My whirlpool top loader won't agitate.

Peace Friend,
ngfam1 At your service!

You did nothing to cause this! Things wear out! So is life!
Sounds like the coupling between the transmission and the agitator is broken!
How old is the washer?Sounds old!

If the appliance is 10 years old or more you it may not be advisable to put good money into bad!
New appliances are so much more efficient today that they can save you a lot of money in energy!!!!
Water,Electric and detergent! And put money back in your pocket!
The new appliance will pay for itself in only a few years!
