after 4 or 5 yrs EHT ( transformer that supplies voltage to CRT TUBE - MONITOR TUBE ) becomes weak - then 1 of the indication is ....picture becomes dull (less brightness & less contrast , blurness )........so solution is EHT ( also called as flyback transformer ) should be replaced....... {{ few details about EHT---- its size will be around 3inch X 2inch X 2inch ---it will have 2 or 3 knobs to adjust focus , brightness ------ at bottom around 10 pins will be there ------- from EHT 1 thick red colour cable goes to CRT TUBE --------- on EHT its part number will be there }} -------- so if user is a technical person having idea about components ( resistors, transistors, diodes, etc ) , having tools like multimeter ( to check components) , soldering iron, soldering lead, flux, desoldering wig ( for removing components), etc also little experience in servicing field( very much compulsory) ----------------- then user can remove EHT from main board ---- take to electronic shop ----- buy same type EHT --------- fix to mainboard ( knobs on EHT should be adjusted according to picture --- after switching monitor --- this adjustment is very important ) ----------iam from bangalore (09986222774, [email protected]) ----- here EHT's price will be around Rs 250 ( US $ 6 ) & for my customers (in bangalore) i will take another Rs 500 (US $ 11) as sevice charge......i don't have any idea about EHT ' s price & service charge in your place.........since it is very risky job i suggest to contact monitor service engineer ------- because they are highly experienced & can fix this component very easily....
If it is a CRT monitor then the tube may be going out. A new monitor is about $129 for many of the cheap monitors I suggest you swap it for a newer flat screen.
For best pictures, you need to set your PC video resolution to the native resolution of this monitor, which is 1280x1024 @60Hz. Try that first before opening up the monitor to look for bad components.
Post back, see what usually goes wrong with SAMSUNG monitors: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Yes, the cooling fluid in the blue and green picture tube assemblies has become contaminated. Thats why the red is predominating. The contaminated growth cannot grow in red light and that is why the red is not affected. The only solution is to have the blue and green tubes pulled and disassembled and cleaned and new fluid installed. This is not a simple job. Most reputable shops charge around $300 to $500 for this repair.
Yes, I'd say your cable is faulty. If it is the type you can disconnect, then change it. If it is moulded to the monitor then you might have a problem. check all of the pins on the connector to make sure they are in tact and not bent.
What is the resolution that you are running the monitor at? There are two possible reasons that come to my mind.
1. You are running at a non native resolution. Based on your LCD spec you should run it at 1280x1024 resolution to have very sharp text as you normally expect from LCD's. However if you have set another resolution (say 1024x768) the text is blurred and this is a known issue with LCD's, which unlike a normal CRT monitor will get blurred running at any other resolution :( 2. You have not installed the monitor driver, hence again this limits your resolution and windows only allows you to select a resolution that is non-native (Meaning since the driver file is not there the operating system may not allow selecting the native resolution the monitor should run at). You can find the driver file at the samsung site. Its a common driver file for all LCDs.
I guess you can simply increase the size of the text.....it will proberbly offset the rest of the web page but you can read it at least.
What browser are you using?
For firefox and internet explorer do this: Click on 'view' on the toolbar at the top of the screen. Then click 'text size' for a choice of different sizes.
mt, the 6 to 8 lines you were seeing were most likley the prelude to the end of the monitor. If the problem only occurs when the screen saver comes on then I could say the driver maybe being corrupted by a certain screensaver picture or program. When the monitor warms up to a certain temprature the electronics start to fail. You may want to turn off the monitor while your not right in front of it to cool it down and prolong its use.
