This model appears to have a high failure rate in consumer reviews, so it may have physical damage on the disk. Only a re-format of the drive will isolate bad sectors that won't hold data. I don't know if you're using a PC or Mac, but try re-mounting your drive after a fresh re-boot of your computer. If the drive came with the manufacture's software to allow it to communicate with your computer, then try removing this software from your system and re-installing it again. This will repair a corrupt driver or I/O program. If that doesn't work, try using the drive with a new or different firewire cable. Other users have reported this drive working again after replacing the cable. If you use Mac OS 10.2, you might not be able to initialize or partition the hard drive. This may require you to partition and format the drive on a different computer.

How to Transfer Files from iPod to a New Computer Without the Old Computer?

If these files are a part of a app, you should be able to plug your iPod into the new computer. Open itunes and navigate to the App section in the iPod contents. Once you've located the app in question you should be able to scroll to the bottom of the screen and see the files associated with that app.

If you're speaking of music, any music purchased through iTunes will load once you've signed into iTunes with your Apple ID account. If these songs were not purchased through iTunes and you don't have access to the original files, there is no practical way to transfer the music.

How to run my ipod on mycomputer

You can easily use an iPod on a computer without iTunes. While iTunes is the program typically associated with the iPod, there are others that can work with your iPod to do whatever it is you want to do. One such program is Winamp, which can be downloaded for free online (see Resources). You can also access your iPod's files without any software at all.
Start Download
1) Click to Begin 2) Download App 3) Get 100s of Free Books & Readers Step 1 Connect your iPod to your computer using a USB cord.
Step 2 Click the "Start" menu, and select "My Computer."
Step 3 Double-click the drive that contains your iPod. It typically has iPod in the drive name, such as "WILLIE'S IPOD."
Step 4 Click the "Tools" menu, and select "Folder Options," then choose the "View" tab. Click the circle next to "Show hidden files and folders," and click "Apply," then "OK." A folder called "iPod_Control" will now appear.
Step 5 Double-click the "iPod_Control" folder. You are now looking at your iPod's hard drive. From here you can click the "Music" folder, which will contain several folders with names such as "F00" and so on. These hold the music files from your iPod. You can copy and paste them onto your hard drive and open them in other music programs. If you'd like to control your iPod in another digital music player, continue on with the following step.
Step 6 Open Winamp. Your iPod will show up in the "Portables" list, which is located in the menu on the left side of the player. From here you can control your iPod just like you can in iTunes. You can sync, add, delete, rename files and more. Sponsored Links

Itunes cannot open . error code is -50. even after reinstalling everything new.

Do you have Norton Security? It could be blocking it.
Uninstall Norton and try AVG antivirus. Norton is a horrible program, I've had bad experiences.
Or disable any antivirus or firewall you have and try running iTunes.
Or try this.
1. Go to Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs --> iTunes --> Remove
...uninstall the program completely and restart your computer
2. Go to Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs --> QuickTime --> Remove
...uninstall the program completely and restart your computer
3. Go to My Computer --> Local Disc --> Program Files. Once in Program Files you will see the iTunes and QuickTime folder and you will want to delete the iTunes folder and the QuickTime folder. Right click on the iTunes folder and select delete and confirm the deletion. Do the same for QuickTime.
4. Restart your computer
5. Disable all features of any anti-virus program such as Norton or McAfee
6. Open Internet Explorer or which ever internet program you use and go to and download the iTunes+QuickTime program. *Do not do any modifications in the download of the program.* Just download the program by doing the usual "Next" clicking.
7. Once iTunes is finished downloading, double click on the Shortcut Icon on the desktop. iTunes should open with a large square box and you have to click "Agree."
Should be good to go.

I do I access previous saved files from my external Maxtor hard drive?

When you hook up a USB drive, it appears as a removable drive in "My Computer", clicking on that drive will open it up to you to see the files. clicking on specific files will allow you to see them if they are associated with a specific program, and most of them will be.

I downloaded itunes on my new laptop. Once downloaded all of my icons I open, open Itunes? they also have the itunes symbol next to each one??

When installing, many programs associate file extensions in Windows with the program. In your case, iTunes associated all file extensions it supports with itself, hence the icons.

Depending on the Windows version, you can change this in the Explorer, or using the default program options (Vista & Windows 7).

My problem! is when i want to open a file my pc

this is happening when the file association with the program is not made...either the program for that file to be open with is not present...or the file was transferred into the computer and you never had this kinda files before and first time you have to choose a program to open the file with...
in this 2 cases you have to know the type (format ) of the file and browse...choose my computer ..than C drive .../program file...and there choose the suitable program for the file...
and from then on ...the files of that kind will be opened with that program...
if you do not know what program to choose...let me know the file type...(look at the properties by right click on the file and choose properties..there will be at least the abbreviation of the file type..)
and with the name of the file format ..I will look for a program or ..tell you what program to choose for it ..
Another thing that might been happening .(in case that the computer makes this request for all files when yo are trying to open them ) that you been hit by a virus that affected the file association feature ...and you will probably need to reinstall the operation system to be sure that this is removed for good..(format the C partition during the install)....
Or ...if your computer remember the program just as long it is running and after restart is doing the same this case the Bios Battery is dead or not making the correct contact ...and the computer do not remember the associations choices and it need to be changed....this can be easy recognized cause a side effect is the clock will not be on time...but get to the bios manufacturing date..and 0 hour each time you open it this case change the bios battery ..and it will remember the settings...all you have to do is to re-associate the file one more time after changing it .. accurate ..

try to download Registry because your programs are not associated with your registry. If you had installed registry mechanic try to run the program and repair your PC.

Double click on the drive if a option box doesnt open up, you should see the audio files.. just right click on one and select properties. You should see the program the file is associated with. Just click change and select another program.
