Sounds like a direct x problem. What version Of direct x do you have installed? Try updating to the latest version.

If its not direct x, it could be your computer doesn't like your hardware acceleration level.

    Try this:
1)Right click on my computer and go to properties.
2)Click on the settings tab, then advanced.
3)Once you are in the advanced window for your video card click the troubleshoot tab.
4)Move the slider for hardware acceleration down one notch.
    5)Click apply, then ok.
    6)Then ok again.

Try your game, and see if this helped.
If it didn't go back to step 4 and move the acceleration slider down one or two notches.

If your problem hasn't been rectified by now I would guess its your video card's memory thats the problem.

May I ask what games this happens in?
And try looking under the system and application logs and see if they have any errors around the time that the computer restarts.

  • Mark Rogers Aug 02, 2007

I'll look into this for you but right now I need to go to bed.
In the mean time check for any game updates &/or patches which might resolve the issue.
I can already see form glancing over forums people with the ati Radeon 9500 have been having graphical problems in the game right before the system restarts on them.
I see you have an ati card but is it the same card that these people have been having trouble with - the ati Radeon 9500?

  • Mark Rogers Aug 02, 2007

What voltage is you computers power supply?
I'm reading here that you need at least a 450w power supply as the radeon x800 XL draws a lot of power especially when it comes to graphically intense games like black and white 2 is.

Its quite possible this is your problem, once you have installed the lastest game patches/updates, try this solution I lifted from a form.

Black and White 2 is a very graphically intense game. As such, your graphics card will draw a lot of power from the power supply in your machine, especially if it is a PCI-Express card.

Having an insufficient power supply can cause the computer to hang and crash under high loads, like those experienced when playing the game. Additionally, if the PCI-E card's power usage level is set too low in the BIOS, similar results can be seen.

Try increasing the slot power to 'Heavy' or equivalent in the BIOS if you are experiencing problems with it.

Not having the latest drivers for either graphics card or motherboard chipset can result in the game's performance deteriorating over time. It is recommended that you update these drivers if you experience problems with the game.

Try what is suggested here and let me know how it goes.

Do your PC support the above hardware requirements?
The most common input no support would be your graphic card is not up to the mark to play the PC games.

Is your graphics card drivers up to date to the latest?
Have you updated your DirectX to the latest version?

Hope it helps.

Black Screen when playing 3D games on ATI Radeon 9550 X1050 Serie

the game resolution is not supported by your monitor....this is the reason your screen goes blank....
by the next time if the screen goes blank, press alt+ctrl+del together and check are you able to see the task manager....
if you can see the task manager, then close the game from that window by selecting end task....
if you cant see the task manager, then press ctrl+alt+del together 2 times and check....
if nothing works, then try by checking with any HD monitors if available with you or with your friends...

How to make use of 2 DVI outputs on Sapphire Radeon X800 GTO2 Graphics card

You need ATIs Catalyst Software to run dual monitors. Just installing the drivers is not enough. There is a bummer part of all this. Before you install the latest driver/Catalyst Crontrol Center, you will have to uninstall your current X800 software through Control Panel. If it fail to uninstall you will need to use ATIs uninstall software called: cat-uninstaller.exe. The first link below.
When you have the new CCC & driver installed you'll need to setup your dual monitors within the Catalyst Control Center. K
