I too received the System Error (0e01) and my solution was too easy. With my Exilim Ex-Z40 I replaced the SD card with another and the camera worked just fine.
if you google error code it seems to be a corrupt operating system in camera and looks like you need a firmware update from casio or if someone has the download to update camera-seems to be a pretty common problem-email casio w/code and see what they say!
You may be lucky like me .My wife turned on the Casio Lens down and got same problem as you.
I dismantled the front face of camera to gain access to the lens system and found that one of the plastic sprockets had its teeth slightly twisted!I managed to straightened these carefully with a knife and now Casio good as new....zoom also working perfectly.
This is an easy fix and from what I hear people are giving up on an out of warranty camera, when in fact they maybe abke to easily fix it themselves.
I dont mind helping anyone ...my email is [email protected].
According to the user manual your camera is corrupted and needs to be taken to a Casio service center. I looked on a photography forum and there were alot of people with this camera that had the same error message.
Sorry for the bad news!
