Why does my computer take so long to restart?

Every time I shut my computer down or restart it, it takes forever to load and will sometimes just stay on the welcome page with the spinning circle which will sometimes freeze. Why does it do this?

There are SO Many possible factors causing slowdowns.
Start with checking the free space on your hard drive. You need some wiggle room to navigate and 25% free is recommended.
Defragment your hard drive. (I like the free Defraggler software better than Windows on feature.) this will take some time so run it overnight.
You may have background programs running. You do not need this--they will kick in when needed, and really slow you down.
For WIN 7 & Vista click Start and type in <msconfig> without the hentrax to bring up the System configuration window.
Click on Startup and uncheck everything except your antivirus (and something like SKYPE if you want it to kick in when you boot up). Apply, OK and Reboot. Check the box on the little window that appears i order to make it gone.
See if your fans are clogged with dust. It is very important to stick a pencil or something between the blades when spraying canned air to keep them from spinning.
Doing some or all of these should give you lightning speed! Hope this helps.

For the last month or so when logged into facebook on my playstation 3 it takes fotever to load anything and freezes my system when i shut it down?

Here is why!!!!! The PS3 is NOT a very good computer, and trying to run web pages like Face Book on the PS3 is very buggy. Sometimes it will work, others, it won't. The reason being, you can not update Adobe Flash on the PS3, and therfore, not able to run a lot of the flash objects found on the page.

Computer shuts down, Restarts runs for a while shuts down, isn't hot. Have run reg. fix,Spy ware programs etc. Sometimes it takes 4 or 5 starts for it to stay running. Thank you for your time

Possibilities:
* overheating
* bad RAM, causing Windows to "crash"
* dying disk-drive, intermittently preventing Windows from being read from the disk-drive
* dead (seized) fan inside the computer.

So, the most-likely cure is to:
* disconnect the AC power
* remove the battery
* buy a can of compressed air
* give your computer a "blow-job", to remove all dust from inside it

When starting the t.v. it shuts itself off. I have to restart the t.v. up to ten times before it will stay on.

Sounds like a power supply problem. If the power supply detects and over load problem it will shut down, The reason it starts up after several attempts could be a problem with horizontal scanning circuits since sometimes that generates secondary power requirements.

I cannot shut down or restart my PC using the start menu prompts. The only way to shut her down is a hard shut down (manually turn her off).

There is a program that is failing to shut down in general, which is delaying the computers ability to shut down.
The next time you shut down, make sure you have no programs open. Then, while attempting to shut down, wait until Windows pops up window asking you to close a non-responsive program. When it does, take note of the program that it mentions, then close it and see if Windows shuts down. Note: sometimes this takes a really long time.
Try re-installing the non-responsive program and see if your computer can shut down normally again.

My XPS 1530 will not shutdown, it only restarts

Try running chkdsk /r and then restart the computer. to do that, click on START, RUN, in the open field, type 'cmd' and press <enter>. A dos window will open. At the blinking cursor, type 'chkdsk /r' and press <enter>. You will get a message that the drive can't be locked and do you want to run it the next time Windows starts. Type 'y' and press <enter>. Now shutdown the computerand restart it. Chkdsk will run and it may take some time. Depending on your installation, you will see a blue screen that will show the progress. Sometimes the screen will stay black and the hard drive light will flash. That's ok. Let it run until Windows loads. Wait until it is completely loaded and then try shutting it down normally.

Good luck and let me know how it works out.
