My Maytag clothes washer makes the laundry room smell like dirty diapers during the first drain/spin cycle. Is it my basement plumbing, emitting sewer gas, or the machine itself? Should I replace the drain hose in case poopy gunk is stuck in there?

You have the beginning of a detergent and/or softener residue buildup on the inside of the plastic outer drum of your clothes washing machine.
