1. Go to control panel>Device Manager 2. Select your audio device, check the properties 3. Check if its disabled. if not then upgrade or reinstall the driver. 4. If not working then check master volume control, if its mute by mistake. 5. If still not working, put external speakers and check if sound is comming. 6. still sound is coming then need to check & change your laptop speaker. 7. If still no sound, then need to check your motherboard.
There's no need for a "driver" -- Windows should _directly_ support it, to let you read CD and DVD media.
However, if you want to "play" a DVD movie, you'll need to have software (either supplied by ACER or purchased online, such as PowerDVD) to play the movie.
Does the laptop play CDs?
If so then when you start a DVD and before you play the movie, go into the audio setting and configure the speakers for laptop stereo speakers.
If you cannot hear music from the CD then check :-
1. The audio settings, volume not set to minimum and mute is not ticked (enabled)
2. Device manager - sound device is enabled and working, if not re-install the sound driver.
although there is a button for bluetooth on the aspire (located next to the wifi button)
Before you can utilize this function you will need to insert the install disk that came with the laptop, and install bluetooth.
Why the aspire has a button for this but does not come installed - I don't know
Most likely the drive is dead, they die from time to time, sometimes they can last years and sometimes but less frequently they just go belly up one day and its very typical for the Cmos and computer to recnognize there is a device there, but Windows cannot access it at all. Try purchasing an external USB or Firewire if your PC has a port for it - and you can then access your CD/s that way. Otherwise, you can purchase a new drive and have it installed. Locating the drive replacement may require some research and time depending on the notebook's specific model number. Also check to see if your PC is still under warranty by any chance, that drive would be covered in most cases.
