Could you give a bit more information than "it doesn't work"? What happens when trying to play a game? Is it a PSP slim or fat? Can you get to the menus? Is it seeing that a UMD is even inserted? Is the firmware up to dare?
Stuff like that will help others to be able to better give you a solution that will fix the problem. The more specific you are, the better we can do. Don't worry about being too detailed, it's better to give too much information than not enough when it comes to technical issues.Could you give a bit more information than "it doesn't work"? I believe the closing button is the problem. There is a small pin that when you close the backside of the psp, it will push the this pin to run the UMD game. If this is torn apart. You no longer play the UMD game. Despite that you can play still play games by putting PSP software games. But you need a chicken software and a gen-c programs to be able to convert it to 6.31 version. I have these programs and games. I can send you for free. here is my email: [email protected]
when you say scanner do you mean laser that reads the umd?
you could replace the laser from one off ebay but the thing with replacing lasers is that adjusting the laser so it reads the disk it tricky
here is a shop that repairs lasers in psps http://www.ipaqrepair.co.uk/ipaqpart1418.html
or if you want to do it your self http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sony-PSP-2000-Slim-Original-UMD-Laser-Lens-Repair-Parts_W0QQitemZ290386195846QQcategoryZ127746QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BIEW%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D11%26ps%3D63

the umd drive is approaching its end of the life. you might need to buy http://www.consolezombie.com/store/slim-replacement-drive-laser-assembly-p-34.html and replace your umd drive. This is what i just did to my psp-2001.
PS: The above link is only for PSP-200x (slim version of PSP)
You need to look intothe UMD drive. Press the little Black probe sticking up in the UMD drive. It is about 3/4 inch from left and 3/4 inch from top of the UMD drive. When you press it, look for the Disc spindle to rotate, and the Laser to light up and the Laser movement to occur. This will tell you a lot in what is working or not in the UMD drive. If the laser does not move left and right, or light up, you have a problem with the laser. move it manually with a pen or something, Only click it a couple of times. Try the black button thing again. If the Disc spindle motor does not spin. You probably need a new UMD drive. If you need a new UMD drive, click on "repair directory" at the bottom of this screen, Click on Video game Consoles. Pick out a good service out. I know one of them specializes in Playstations. You can get a new UMD drive replaced for under $60.
Same with my PSP. My son accidentally broken a spring sensor for the UMD when you close the UMD cover of the PSP. That's why the drive doesn't recognize if there's a UMD.
Sony Service Center here in the Philippines doesn't have a replacement part for this.
