Won't start My magic chef dryer just quit working between loads did seem to be hotter then usual door switch as continuity but nothing I replaced main timer switch 1 year ago due to not shutting off! should i buy another switch? please help Thank you in advance Bob

Electric dryer no start does nothing

Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage.

CHECK THERMAL SHUT OFF THERMOSTAT USUALLY LOCATED ON THE BLOWER. for OHMS or resistance with a meter. Should show a closed circuit. Ohms WHEN THIS FUSE BLOWS IT WILL SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING.

NEXT Test the PUSH start switch with meter for OHMS. Should show OHMS when pushed in or on start, and no ohms or infinity when in off position.
If you hear a humming/clicking sound from motor area you more than likely have a bad motor.
Try this test out to see if u have weak windings or relay/capacitor on motor.
Open the dryer door and turn by hand the drum while machine is on ON position. And you or someone else presses the door engagement switch in. If it starts up then u have bad windings

Another thing to check is the belt safety switch. With a multi meter.
Especially if u just replaced the belt. The belt safety switch is attached to the Tensioner and motor. IT LOOKS LIKE A DOOR SWITCH SOMEWHAT a little black pc of plastic with 2 prongs going into it. Sits at bottom of motor. Under the Tensioner. Attach meter clips to the 2 prongs on switch, Then when the little white push button is pressed in it should show continuity and none when released.
Lastly check ur DOOR SWITCH for continuity with a meter when the button is pushed in the (on/Door closed position,) it may have gone bad.

Thanks for using FixYa. As you have already checked everything else then the issue seems to be with the Thermal fuse going bad needs to be replaced. It is mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. Also, often a dryer heating element burns out, but doesn't trip the circuit breaker or blow a fuse. You can check it for continuity with an ohm meter, no continuity means it is bad and you need to replace it. If you have also checked this fuse already then the issue is with the control going bad and should be replaced. HI, check the following to address this issue.


1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse. Check the wall socket for power with a voltmeter or by plugging something else in.

2. Door switch / Door switch actuator lever
The dryer will not start with a broken door switch. Replace the door switch if found defective.

Most dryers have a door switch actuator lever - when you close a dryer door, it presses against the lever, which actuates the door switch. If the lever is broken, the switch would not activate and the dryer would not start. Replace the lever, if broken.

Note: Door switch actuator lever usually comes with the door switch assembly and it is recommended to get the whole assembly since there is almost no price difference between the door switch assembly and just the lever. Check your model for more details.

3. Thermal fuse
Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Note: It is recommended by most dryer manufacturers to replace a hi-limit thermostat when replacing a thermal fuse.

4. Timer or control board
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).


**The most common issue here will be a defective Thermal fuse

I would have a look at the wires going to your start switch or door switch. Sounds like they may have come unhooked or broken.

The door switch must be checked for continuity. The thermal overload fuse near the heating element must be checked for continuity. If either has no continuity it is a bad part and must be replaced.

Replace the fuses and your problem is solved.

Hello dybarra_fami, first suspect is the door switch. Check the little button on the door & the switch it presses when you close the door. Merry Chrismas.

I have a Magic Chef Clothes dryer. Model #YE224LV. Was drying clothes, went back to ckeck and dryer wasn't running. Push botton and nothing. Check circuit breaker everything ok. What do I need to check and how. Just won't start.
