Samsung HCN4226WX/XAA Rear Projection 42" TV Wont Turn On

The power light on the TV blinks a soft pink/amber light, but wont turn on. I've tried it both with direct cable connection and hooked up to the digital cable box. I've looked all over the 'net, and all i can seem to come up with is articles about convergence problems, which this is obviously not. Is this something I can fix by myself, or do I need to break down and call in the repairman?

Well, I did just what you suggested and still nothing. Any other troubleshooting steps?

I unplugged the red connector with blue wires, that is on the far left side of the convergence board.

Could it be the main board?

    my e-mail is [email protected].

    Thanks so much.

For what it's worth, when I unplug the connector on the convergence board, I can hear the set click on, but there is no picture whatsoever. No sound, nothing. THe power button blinks, but nothing else happens.

Ok, I was going to move the TV out onto the porch tonight, but thought I'd plug it in one more time. I did, and it came on and the colors are all over the place, but it came on this time. can't adjust the convergence at all. I'm guessing this is a tell-tale sign that it's a bad convergence board????

I've attached a picture of my screen, now that it will turn on.

I replaced the convergence board because I had the symptoms above. It worked great for about a week. Now the screen flickers, no sound and have to unplug it to turn it off! There is little to no response with the remote too. Convergence board cost me near $100, so I am hoping this is a cheap fix this time! Please let me know. 04/17/2009

I have a hcn529w, which is similar. Same symptoms, won't turn on, when power is pressed standby light blinks 9 times then goes out like it should. When I unplugged the convergence board the tv does the same thing. What else should I be looking for?

Take off the back there is a board at the top right with two black stk-392-040 chips on it unplug the red connector at the left side of the board then plug set up and see if it comes on if so the chips on the board are bad or replace the board about $100.00

I have the same problem. I turned off the tv and the cable box; waited between 30 mins to 1 hour. Turned on the cable box first then the tv and it works. I don't know how this will last. Black Friday's coming.

Did you unplug the red connector at the far left side of the board this plug dissconnects the convergence board and lets the set come on i have one in my shop right now with the same symptoms as you described and my set came on but the picture was way out due to the board being unpluged. there are five plugs on this board on three of them it will say red , blue ,green ,this is not the right plug . the red connector that i am talking about on my set has two blue wires that has a black and white wire in each of them. is this plug the one that you unpluged.

Yes this is a convergence problem the chips are shorted and keep your set from starting up it is called shutdown mode if you unplug the red connector on the board the set will come on but picture will not look good due to bad board.

Samsung rear projection television HCN4226WX/XAA

I don't recommend working on the TV unless you have some experience and knowledge relating to the safety issues and electronic repair. Most rookies will not successfully complete the repair and probably do more harm than good.

Sometimes when the convergence chips fail, the TV senses the changed load condition and shuts down.

Unplugging the blue, red or green convergence connector on the convergence board removes the overload condition if the IC is shorted and allows the tv to run, with one color missing.

This is done with the tv unplugged. Then plugged in and turned on to see if it starts. Turn off immediately if you here it start.

Now you know if convergence failure caused the shutdown. You can repair the convergence circuit if that is the problem.

If this has no affect, then you could have a number of different faults in Vertical output, Power Supply or HV circuits that require the expertise of a qualified service person. This would be a bench repair in most shops.

If you live around Calgary, Alberta try me instead:

http://calgaryconvergencerepair.weebly.com/convergence-explanation.html

Or try to the find the repairperson part of this website (on the Homepage) and search postal code. Maybe you will be lucky and someone from your area is listed for Projection TV repair.

Most rookies doing this job will cause damage and not be successful. They will pay double for someone to fix their mess or end up scrapping the TV. It is not a simple task. It is more difficult than batteries on a remote.

Good Luck
