SOURCE: Problems with Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator

I had the same problem twice, and both times I had to replace the Solenoid/value part. I went through the troubleshooting guide for the ice maker, which was nicely tucked in the front kick panel, and everything worked fine. It went through the cycles but still no water comes out. I finally had to follow the trail back to the solenoid/value unit. Remove the connectors and plug an A/C volt meter into the wires which go to the solenoid, run the cycle, and if you have 120 volts AC, you should have water coming out of the fill unit (assuming the line is not frozen).

Here's the part I had to replace. again, twice in two years. Don't know if you have the same model, but good luck.

Look for an ice cube lodged in the fingers IM. Get a hair dryer and melt that dude. No ice cube? Add some water to the IM mold. If it kicks out some ice but makes no more then you is gonna need a water valve. If it don't kick out no ice then you is gonna need a ice mold thermostat. Either one is very easy and cheap to fix. let me know Kimosabe.

SOURCE: Icemaker leaking causing icicles

Is it overfilling with water? If so, it may be an problem with the fill valve leaking slightly. I say slightly because if it were a large leak, the freezer would have frozen puddles in it. Also check the water chute to be sure the water is all going into the freeze tray. Sometimes they can work loose.

If the seam is leaking, there could be a crack in the housing - not sure that's repairable - sometimes epoxy will work (5 minute, 2 part) but it can be difficult for glue to hold on the type of plastic used in an ise maker housing.

My Kenmore refrigerator (596.52673200) is making a noise every 3 minutes or so for about 15 seconds. It seems like it is trying to fill the ice maker. There was ice in the little rubber tube leading to the...

Put the icemaker arm in the lock position to turn it off.
If it is the icemaker making the noise, the noise should stop.
If the noise stops, replace the icemaker.
If it does not stop, let us know.

Replace icmaker on kenmore

The problem could also be the Emitter or receiver unit. This unit detects the level of ice in the ice bucket and when it gets full the ice blocks the optical path shutting down the making of ice till optical contact is made. See the attached jpeg for troubleshooting steps.

I have a kenmore side by side and the icemaker makes a ticking noise that last about thirty seconds and stops. It happens maybe once an hour. How do we stop the ticking ?

the ticking noise is the icemaker motor. during ice harvest there is a time whne the icemaker motor "stalls" out against the ice before the ice releases into bucket. its during this time the motor is making the noise. this is a sign of motor gear wear. the motor module on the front of your icemaker needs replacing the part number is 8201515 and should run 60-80 dollars. this part is easily replacable. remove front i/m cover and there are 3 phillips screws that hold the module in place.
Hope this answers your question. any furhter questions just leave a comment here and I'll be glad to assist any way I can.. Peyton

Oviously you need water first. You'll have to check that the fill valve is opening and that the water is making it to the icemaker. Make sure the fill tube that feeds the water from the back of the frige to the icemaker is not frozen. Be aware, just because you get water at the dispenser doesn't mean the valve to the icemaker is ok. If you are getting water, you need to check that the icemaker is not jammed, sometimes ice can fall back into the icemaker, or get caught in the ejector. You may need to remove the icemaker and run the mold under hot water to melt the ice. If it was jammed, you'll need to check that the fill level is correct to prevent it from happening again, both too much water and too little water can cause problems. There is a heater that helps loosen the ice from the mold, because of that there is a thermal fuse to prevent it from over heating. It will be molded into the wiring harness supplying power to the icemaker. If you have continuity through the fuse it's ok. If you don't the heater shorted and you will need both a new icemaker and that wiring harness.

Icemaker - Plastic

If the pieces of plastic are smaller than the inner diameter of the water tube then you should be looking at the filter washers on the tap and where the water line fits onto the valve assembly behind the fridge. If the filters are clear, the problem is within the ice dispenser. Remove the ice bin and inspect the shroud where the motor coupling pushes onto the auger behind the bin. The auger could be off centre and chaffing the plastic away. Otherwise, check the ice maker fingers for damage.
