From your description I understand that the DVD drive is not working and you have code 10 error in device manager. Do not worry, run the following fix on the pc and then restart the notebook.
Try Using a different DVD player. try download VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc
If that doesnt work try as follows>>

This is not a sure fix. There are alot of factors that can lead to this problem. But as above, the memory that came with the pc is not that much in todays standards. Ram modules are cheap and boost performance.
1. delete temporary internet files.
2. run disk cleanup then defrag if needed.
3. if you need help doing these tasks i'l gladly walk you through them.
4. empty your recycle bin
