SOURCE: How to Rewire Sony MDR-7506 headphones

Okay, cut and strip the cord. There should be two copper wires and (on Sony headphones, at least) a red and a green strand. On a new 1/8" jack, there should be three connections. The middle one is left, and is where the green one goes. The short one on the side is right, and is where the red one goes. The long bit is the common, and is where the copper one goes. Before you solder, however, remember which strand is which, because you have to sand or burn off the colored enamel. (Use a fine grain paper, or use a standard lighter or stick match- anything else might damage or melt the wire)

SOURCE: my sony mdr-7506 headphones stopped working,

As long as there is no inbuilt amp or something special to this make, then the problem will be most likely the cable or the Jack plug at the end. There will have a clean break (internal) cutting off all sound. If you are good with a soldering iron then you should be able to get a new cable with plug, or you can try cutting the old jack and fitting a new plug. If you need to go inside to fit the cable then the access screws will be under the foam and ear pads.

SOURCE: The jack on my Sony MDR-NC6 has broken off. Can I

See my tip on dodgy cable/jack on headphones. If the jack is different to the one shown, you should be able to get it from Maplin (UK user) or Radio Shack (USA).

My headphones just stopped working all together after less than a year of use, no wire or water damage

If they are just the standard type, ie no built in amp etc, chances are that an internal break that is not visible to the wire has occurred. It is most probable that it's in the plug.
If it has a volume control built in suspect that first!
Are they covered by Sony still, check that out, before attempting any repair.

I cut the lead cable in half accidentally

Hi.

There wil be 2 inner cores and a screen which is an outer core that wraps around the 2 inner cores. The 2 inner cores should be different colours. All you need to do is strip the wires back and connect each of the cores together, for example a red and white core would connect red to red white to white.

The best way to do this is to use a soldering iron then tape around the individual cores ensuring that they don't touch.

For reference. 1 inner core is for the left ear, the other for the right, and the outer core is the common return.

MDR-NC6 Sony Noisecancelling headset

I think I have it. I've only had a chance to listen to a couple of songs till the brand new headset's right ear died. I took it apart and found that when I hook up another speaker in parallel with the dead one, it works, which can only mean that the circuit is fine and the 'dead' speaker is really dead. No idea where to get a replacement though.
