Is there any way I can stop the test sheet printing out every time I put a new cartridge in. It seems a real waste of ink to me.

Well, one way is to just take the paper out when it tries, and when it gives you an error message tell it to abort the print. Another way is that the second it starts printing press the power button, or cancel button if it has it, that will tell the printer to stop printing.

How to turn off test print on a HP DJ 6122.

Yes.Tell it to print a dot short word and when it starts printing unplug the power cord so it stops with the printhead somewhere to the left. Then do your cart change. It won' t know you did anything.
The 6122 will print from the HP 920, 930, 932, 940 & 950 drivers also - (which are included with your Windows XP and Vista systems). If you chose the 970 driver it will want a second sheet of paper to print a test page, which you can ignore and it will stop trying. All drivers seem to be the same print quality in my systems. I do not use the 970 or 6122 driver at all so I don't have an ink level monitor or any possible related potential glitch. I wet and slap stubborn old ink cartridges to un-stick dry jets. sometimes I use a small clear silicone tube to suck a bit of ink to get them started as the jet holes need priming sometimes if they are old.

Hp deskjet 5150 just replaced both inks...black

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

Hp deskjet 5652 not printing, orange light flashing continuously

1. Check to insure the cover is shut down completely.

2. If the "Ink Drop" Icon is blinking you are either out of ink, or there is a problem with the cartridge carrier. So open the cover - the carriage should move to the middle, if not it is bound up somewhere. Check the guides and around the carriage area for gummy labels etc..

3. If the carriage moves to the middle, release the ink cartridges and replace.

4. If the "Arrow" Icon is blinking, this could be a result of a paper feed error. Remove the paper from the tray, open the cover and insure no jams are in the rollers. Shuffle the paper lightly and place back in tray. Check to make sure the tray is pushed completely forward and then press the "Arrow" Icon button until a sheet is fed into the printer.

* * Note: When you are replacing the Ink cartridges and before you remove the tape from the bottom heads, give them a shake to lossen up the ink before installing.
