After a paper jam, it takes in paper halfway and stalls; computer utilities states "General Printer Error". Have tried resetting it by taking out power lead and holding down 6 buttons; ok till alignment, then just sits there, saying "busy" - still with paper halfway in. Help!

My Hp came with a setup CD that has very specific (required) drivers. Truthfully, if you machine is using the wrong drivers for the selected printer, it will interpret the bi-directional communication with the printer wrong - as evidenced by the false "Paper Jam" message.
Here's a path to HP's drivers for the 72000 series printer and Mac OS.

Here is a list of steps you can take to clear this "Remove and check cartridge" error on HP printers. They generally involve cleaning the contacts between the cartridge and the carriage in the printer.
Some people think this error is related to hard-coded expiration dates that are encoded on the cartridges themselves. HP will not confirm or deny this (I personally find it unlikely, but you never know...) In this case, performing a partial reset of the printer may clear the error.
Good luck!

This error code does not match anything that I can locate. I am wondering if it has something to do with the fax function. I think that you should go to this site and click on "talk to an online technician" It is a very easy way to get support for your product . since they are the manufacturers they will know more than I do without a manual or the machine in front of me. Hi There,
Thanks for you using FixYa.
The problem can be solved by repairing Motor/Roller.
It needs to have a shaft at both ends (dual shaft), and it takes some
soldering and replacement of the black round plastic gizmo with tiny
fingers around it back onto the shaft of the replacement motor as well
as the tiny worm gear and the little green circuit board (has to be
soldered onto the new motor).
You can order it cheaply at www.allelectronics.com and specify the above motor model but be sure to select the dual shaft one.
Regards
Ellin

I think there is a removable panel in the back that has a large knob to open.
