Hi there.
Make sure the wiring connections on the particular leg are all tight. Loose connections tend to heat up the terminals fast.

No, they are not... The model number is like a car model number...But, in that model or series each car/fryer has their own individual VIN number or serial number, so you can track each one... The serial number is individual to each fryer, while the model number is the same for all the fryers made with those specific specs... They can make the same model number for years, but each fryer will have it's own serial number... Normally you need both when ordering parts, etc.... Thanks, Susan

I have put 3 relays in it and it keeps burning them out. I checked all the connections and good and tight. Soon as I put the relay in it last about 2 seconds and throws a spark out the side and quits....

Check the power rating of the fryer against the relay wattage , the relay wattage has to be higher than fryer. If that checks out ok one of the heater elements must be shorted out. with the power off, check for shorts with a ohms meter.

Wells deep fryer 208 volt 3 element. 1 element works other two don't working left to right. Continuity good resistance good. Relay problem?

Sounds like this maybe a three phase unit and you are powering it off on single phase power. Most can be converted to single phase but will draw three times the current and requires some wiring changes. It needs to be on a three section breaker for 3 phase.

All electric commercial fryers have a contactor relay due to the amps involved.

You will see contactors on this parts list. It seems they have one depending on voltage. Depending on model, you may have more than one. The other possibility with yours is heat damaged connectors. I have seen commercial equipment stop working because wires have burned through at terminals. I am a trade chef.

Sounds like you may have a 3 phase fryer, or it is wired wrong. If you only have single phase power, it might be able to be rewired so that all three heaters are on the two main leads, this is often done at the power relay with a strap. Note the current will be much higher this way.

Fryer isn't turning on. tried reseting. still no luck

Hello. Here is a wiring diagram for your unit:

http://www.wells-mfg.com/~WELLS/WELLS%20LIBRARY/Wells%20Wir%20Diag/307298.pdf

Check to see that the thermostat clicks at or about just above on, try again the reset, sometimes it is hard to push in all the way. If that does not correct the problem, make sure your power is on, do any indicators light? It could be as simple as a burnt of wire, you will need to check the resistance of the parts to tell any more, thermostat, and hi-limit should read closed (zero). The element should read 4 to 15 ohms each, there are 3 in the tube. The relay coil should be anywhere from 200 to 1200 ohms, the contacts open. I have seen broken wires in the pivot elbow where power comes up the the element head.
Hope that helped, and thank you.

Change 208v heating elements to 240v.

If your supplying 240 vac to a 208 vac element it will work but shorten the life of it.Goto 3wire.com and register, they should have a 208vac element. The wild leg could also be an issue but if you get a 208 vac element it shouldnt hurt it that much. Why you would be getting a reading of 240 vac on l1-l2-l1-l3-l2-l3 is strange.Let me know.
