I will here a clicking sound in the back of the refrigerator, today the freezer and refrigerator stop cooling, but the lights are on. the ice maker and water hasn't worked in almost a year.
The clicking you hear is most likely the compressor trying to cycle. It sounds to me like you are low on refrigerant. Most are thermo. protected and will not run on low coolant. Frigerators DO NOT make cold, they absorb heat from inside the box and expell it out the back. Most common cause of refrigerant loss is a leak, usually near the compressor. Hope I Helped
IF THERE IS A MAIN CIRCUIT BOARD AT THE BACK THE CLICKING COULD BE THE RELAY ON THE BOARD.THE BOARD COULD HAVE A SHORT .YOU NEED TO ISOLATE THE COMPRESSOR AND OTHER HIGH VOLTAGE PARTS TO CHECK SEPERATE THIS SHOULD BRING YOU CLOSER TO PROBLEM.

I also have been getting a clicking noise and in the past it would start the compressor. Now it just keeps on clicking and fails to start anything.
About a week ago, my freezer failed to cool, and I fixed it (apparently temporarily) by removing the back panel and vacumming the dust off the compressor (the cylindrical metal grill in the back of the fridge).
Any ideas how to fix this? Will the compressor fail to start because I am leaking "refrigerant"? How can I tell if there's a leak?
Thanks.
