SOURCE: burner will not turn off

I will need the complete model #. There should be a sticker near the bottom front behind the drawer. Can't use the # that is on the owners manual.

SOURCE: cooktop burner doesn't switch between small and large

The burners are controlled by switches, that are the one you turn when you turn the knob. Iwf the burner does not switch to high mode than you need to change the switch.
The switch for your appliance has part number:
WB21X5243
You can by the part from manufacturer clicking here.

Here is an exploded view of your kitchen panel.

The switch is indicated with number 3 in the picture, There should be at least ttwo of them, depending on the model. That is what you need to replace.
Its price is $40.50 from GE.

SOURCE: GE JBP64 Radiant Range - won't work

This is a very strange one, and you don't say how old this unit is or how long you have had problems with it, but most likely you have a poor electrical connection. Turn the breaker off and unplug the range. Remove the cover over the receptacle you just pulled the plug from and check all the electrical connections. If all OK, check the electrical connections where the cord attaches to the range. If still OK, inspect additional range and household wiring to range, including the connections right on the circuit breaker.

SOURCE: GE Profile JB 968 Hot Cooktop Indicator Light Always On

Temporary solution to turn off the indicator lamp - put a wet rag with an ice pack on top on the middle section of the cooktop.
The thermal sensor will trip off the lamp.

SOURCE: ge profile gas range. one burner with no clicking and no ignition

Try one to light one of the other burners that work and watch the electrode on the burner that does not light and see if you have spark when you here the clicking nois. (( most gas cooktop spark ignitor all spark at the same time, even if your only trying to light one burner ))

If you do have spark, Then the Ignitor switch is bad.

If you don't have spark then your spark modual is bad.

My 36" sealed gas cooktop

I had that problem also. It seemed to me that when anyone set the flame too high for the size of pan, the burner overheated. Then when the burner was turned off the igniter made clicking noises for a few hours...till it cooled down.

When I cooked at a lower setting all was ok.

This is free help...please take time to rate me....good luck.

Need help...my range JS968 cooktop seems to not cool down when turned down, even boils food when turned down to low, what can be done...I'm almost ready to purchase nother range. Thanks

It is normal for food to continue to boil for a short period of time after turning the burner to a low setting. Is your burner staying hot long after it is turned off?

I want to lift the cook top on GE range jbp82shss so that I can clean out all the dust. can I do this

Yes. Disconnect power to range. Open oven door and remove hex head screws at front edge of cooktop from the bottom side. Lift up front of cooktop. Burner units can then be removed from the underside of the cooktop. Be careful not to damage the gray insulating material around the burner elements if you remove the elements from the cooktop glass.

GE EVOLUTION Glass top. The hot surface(Glass top)

Individual burners, located directly under the cooktop glass, contain a temp sensor which lights up the hot surface lamp when they sense a hot condition. If the light stays on after all burners are cool, one of the sensors has shorted out. The sensors are an integral part of the burner, so the offending burner must be replaced to solve your constant on hot light.

I have a new ge range. When I turn on the left

mvek,
If you could see through the glass, you'd see "temperature sensors" located near the elements. They're very sensitive little guys, and rightly so! Their job is to detect temps and energize the warning light on the cooktop so users won't get burned.

To answer your question... It appears that there is an issue with the front left sensor (and possibly the right as well). The temp warning lamps should NEVER go off immediately. Please call for warranty repair (1-800-GE-CARES). This is an unsafe condition for you and your Family. The warning indicators are there for a reason and should indicate high temp's as long as high temp's are present.

Cooktop light stays on when cool

the "hot top" indicator lamp is switched by a contact on the plate cut-out. sometimes this cut-out is available as a separate part but often must fit complete plate. by plate i mean the bit that gets hot!
