The belts will have failed. You will need to replace them for the deck to be reliable. If you are mechanically minded I can talk you through it... You giving me a FixYa rating will help my profile and loosen my lips on how to overhaul your deck. :)

SOURCE: Yamaha K-720 cassette deck will not play

your problem is the flat belt that drives the 2 capstans. I asked you to check switches but remembered afterwards there is a different motor for fast forward reverse. When the machine is powered on, the capstan motor runs all the time. I bet the 2 capstans are not turning. You can see this if you slide up (gently) the cassette tinted cover. You need a new belt. If you are handy, you can do it yourself (about 2 hours) but it is tricky as you have to remove the complete cassette mechanism and then partially dismantle it to put on the new belt. If you need help I can probably guide you a bit. I just did it a few months ago. The belt size is 9.6 inches. One part number is FBM9.6 or you can try Yamaha service.

Stop Paying .. ????

if the take up side gets stuck it could feed excess tape and stop the mechanism. Look to see if both reels are turning when you push play. Remove cassette door for a better view if possible.

Make sure your tapes have NO slack in them. Fast forward and rewind one cassette all the way, then try again looking to see if both sides are turning. If not, you may have a belt that is old, stretched and slipping or it's split apart or just fallen off

How do I get fast forward & rewinds to work on my Teac W450-R dual cassette deck..?

Check the belts, inside the unit you should see a rubber belt which is what pulls the tape fast forward or rewind. Some belts with time get loose and slip, they can also break and fall off which will not let you fast forward or rewind.
Open your cassette player and look where the plastic pulleys are located and check for the belts, they might not be broken at all but very loose and slip on the plastic pulley.

Panasonic SC-AK45 stereo not playing cassette tapes

I may not have worked on one of these before but all tape decks have some common drive parts. Yours is missing the proper torque to drive the reel table in take-up for play and your fast wind observation also points to either drive transfer problems or the motor itself. I suspect the fastest answer is to have a tape deck technician work on it. Dual cassette decks are not known for being the long lasting products like a singles cassette deck is.

I have a Sherwood DS1150 tape Deck. Problem Cant open Cassette Door, tape is inside . Will not rewind or fast forward. Wont play. Any advise

Very likely the tape is wound around the capstan.

You may have to get at it by taking the unit's case off.

If I am right you might have to destroy the cassette unless you are very careful. Or, at least, have to cut the tape so as to unwind it from the capstan.

You could also try to open the door just enough to lift it up and off ... as if you were going to clean the tape heads.

Sony TC-138SD cassette deck starts to play then stops after 3 secs. Same when trying to rewind/fast forward

It sounds like the belt is slipping or broken which monitors the speed of the tape movement. When you play or rewind the tape, it thinks the tape has reached the end of play and shuts off. You can try a different tape to make sure the tape does not have too much tension on it. If the second tape has the same result you will need to remove the top cover of the deck to inspect the tape drive mechanism. Make sure the belts and pulleys are clean and replace any belts which have glazing or cracks. If the belt is broken you will need to replace it with a compatible belt of the same length and width.

VHS tape was playing . After stoping does not play. Other tape will play

The idler wheel (that only drives the tape in play or scan modes) is slipping too much (very common problem). Try verify this by putting the tape in play then immediately press the fast fwd or rewind buttons to scan the tape. On older machines, the idlers used rubber friction tires - on newer ones, a clutch. Either replace the tire or increase the spring tension on the clutch.
Hope Ya Fix It.

Cassette Recorder play problem

Sounds like the tape tension sensor is stuck. The sensor is always telling the mechanism that the tape has reached the end.
