Insert a lens cleaning disc into it and let it play. If this do not help you, the optical pickup unit to your playder is faulty, and should be replaced.
Most Combo Recorders (VHS and DVD) will prevent you from
recording a Copyrighted VHS tape program onto DVD.
Try recording a TV program onto your VHS tape, then
transfer it to your DVD and see if your new DVD recording
will work or not.
Try a different brand of blank dvd+r or -r. you will find that your dvd machine is fussy on what discs it plays. More exspensive dvd players are fussy with what dvd discs you put in, as cheaper dvd players would virtualy play most types of dvds.
Insert the VHS tape. Do not press play. Insert a DVD RAM or DVD-R into the DVD side and press and hold DVD DUBBING, it should start playing the VHS immediately while recording on the DVD side.
you are trying to play dvds you have recorded on a different player and because you recorded them onto RW discs they have not and cannot be finalized, to be made compatible to play on other makes of player.
Make sure you are usiing only DVD-R or DVD-RAM discs. Try different makes.
