There is a thermo fuse in the field winding under the tape. When it overheated the fuse went bad.

open the top of the vacuum. remove ONLY the filter element. There should be a ball about a two inch diameter inside the cage. It's purpose is to shut off the vacuum flow when water reaches a high in the canister.

SOURCE: Help!!! It won't start.

Hello,
When you say you checked your extension cord, what do you mean by that? Were you able to ohm out the wires to determine that you didn't have an inline break anywhere? Just because you changed outlets to a known good outlet, doesn't rule out a problem with the cord, switch or motor itself. If you have access to an ohm meter, volt meter, continuity checker or even an inductive power sensor ( electritians use these all the time to find live power feeds) then you may be able to determine where the problem lies.. I did a cursory search for a wiring diagram for that particular model but was unable to locate one. Not having that information means I am only speculating what your problem could be. Is there a reset button or popout circuit breaker on that model that may have tripped? If so, reset it and try it again. If not then you may need to do some troubleshooting of the hardware itself. Not sure I've helped you at all but I tried.. Hope you can trace out the problem... Good luck..

If you are going to use the wet vac to remove water, be sure to remove the bag inside the canister first. Also, some wet vacs have an internal float that has to be installed, but that may not be the case with yours.

yes, the foam filter is what you should use, also make sure you remove any bag, or paper filter, the water would make it fall apart.

Throws the breaker

Shorted armature or just too many loads on that circuit. Try plugging in a different outlet, in another room.

dont know what model you have, but, as a rule, the dry bag is for dry vacuuming and the foam is for wet vacuuming.

How do you change the ridgid 9 gallon wet/dry shop vac from a dry to wet vac? Is it simply changing the hose to the back fitting?

all you have to do is open it up and take the paper filter off and then it's a wet vac. If it has a foam over filter you leave that on
