My computer shuts down when i plug in the charger

try plugging in the charger and see if it is not dead. If it does not charge then either there is a problem with the charger or the battery.

You need to check the charger, I do not think it is any good as the charging power is in the charger unit not the computer. It sounds as if the battery in the computer is totally dead and that is why it shut down. Hope this helps.

Remove battery...plug in charger and boot/Turn on computer.Then shut computer down.Unplug charger..hold the on/off button down for 30 seconds.Replace battery and turn on.

it has a fault bring it back

right off the bat, i would suspect a bad power adapter for the computer. or perhaps a faulty computer. your best bet is to call toshiba and talk to them directly.

Check you power settings. It is possible that it is set to shut down at 50% battery power.

If it is overheating, that too will cause a shutdown. What is happening at the time of shut down? Are the vents on the laptop being blocked in any way?

remove the battery and try to power on the computer using just the charger. if you can try to use a different charger. if the charger light still goes off when plugging it in your computer then it might mean that there is a short in your motherboard. you can try removing the peripherals (i.e. memory, harddrive, DVD or CD drive, wireless card, battery or modem) to check if it is one of the peripherals causing the short. if you have removed all the peripherals and the system still doesnt turn on or if the power light on the charger still turns off and you have tried the charger on a different computer then it would mean the motherboard is damaged.

If the computer's battery is bad it won't stay on. If the fan is plugged up and over heats quickly, then the computer will shut itself down. I would start with those. Wouldn't be bad to check that your memory chips are in securely as well.

Are you sure it was fully charged before? Could you see the full battery bars?

It sounds like your AC adapter (the charger) has likely gone bad. The phone battery probably wore down, and when you plugged it into the charger, the charger couldn't charge it, so the battery remained dead.

Since the battery is not charged, you can't turn the phone on at all when it's not connected to the charger. And when you do connect it to the charger and turn it on, you get the intermittent charging because something inside the adapter has a faulty connection -- sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

You can easily verify if the charger is the problem by getting a new charger (they're not too expensive) and seeing if the phone will work and/or charge with the new charger.

If the new charger doesn't fix the problem, post again here and we'll go from there, but I think the new charger will take care of it.

Charger is bad and is not putting out the correct voltage which causes the computer to shut down. Battery probably isn't much good either if it only lasts for one hour. Get new batter and charger. Ebay'ers will help you find one cheap.
