The shredder jammed (too much paper) then stopped and won't shred. It makes a noise, but when I insert paper, it won't shred. Is there a reset button? I picked paper out of the blades with a pair of tweezers. Thanks!

Chances are, the overfeed caused the teeth of the gear that operates off of the motor to break.
This is very common in less expensive machines. I don't know if OM will let you return it because I don't know there policy. Most of the time retailers will attribute broken gears to abuse, which in turn is not warranted. These machines are mainly mass produced in China and obviously are very cheap. The labor and part (s) to repair are more expensive than replacing the machine.
If you do, look for a higher quality German machine i.e. Intimus, Olympia, HSM or Dahle. They cost more but they have a nationwide service arena and parts are always available.

Do you have info on paper shredders that just stop

shredders have a small tag next to the cutter wheels that move when you insert paper to shred. This tag is easily jammed or damaged during operation. It is normally about the middle and will be positioned between two blades. If this is not moving when paper is inserted it will not switch the machine on. It is the same switch that wwhen jammed by paper will not switch off the machine after paper has been shredded.

Why won't shredder turn off automatically?

turn off and unplug; then turn over to see if there is any paper jammed in the shredder. MAKE SURE YOU TURN OFF AND UNPLUG BEFORE YOU WORK ON IT.

Clean out any jammed paper or plastic with a bamboo skewer or something like that. DO NOT put YOUR HANDS near the blades.

Omnitech shredder model ot--exc10a , shredder runs but when insert paper to shred it stops, pull out paper and it runs non stop!

Sounds like there's blockage between rollers and it also jams the sensor so auto function stops working. You will need to clear out as much jammed paper as you can using tweezers. Inspect the centre of the feed opening, there should be sensor which must be clear of blockages and moving freely. So clear any stuck paper with tweezers, in addition you can soak any jammed paper with WD-40 and unit should be good as new. Although if sensor arm is damaged then replacement of such sensor is unavoidable.

My Staples SPL-1524CP shredder stopped shredding although the green light is on. I unplugged it for a while, emptied the bin, etc., then plugged back in and it started working again. I ran a lubricant...

There is a small micro switch in the slot where you insert the paper, have a look and find it, it may be jammed with a piece of paper or bend. Wd40 might help

When you put paper in it starts to shred for about 1/4 inch then goes to reverse. No jams that I can see. Can run forward and reverse without paper with no problem. Sensor problem?

No mention of make or model however this holds true for all shredders.... especially if its a "cross-cut" shredder; put some shredder oil onto the cutting shafts where you insert the paper this will help get rid of some of the build-up that occurs due to the shredding process...also give the "eyes" in the middle of the "throat" a clan with a soft cloth( unplug the machine first or it will start to run and take your cloth in.) Occasionaly shrd a sheet of paper with some shredder oil poured directly onto the paper..this will help lubricate the cutting blades. Lastly...only shred up to about 70% of the rated cpacity..this will result in fewer jams an longer machine life.

Paper Shredder problem Royal JMD500 paper shredder makes a banging noise and paper only shreds about 1 inch in and then stops. You must put machine in reverse to take paper out.

Sounds like shreddder gears are not staying aligned or somethhing is caught in the cutters.
The shredder has a sensor to detect when somethine is insert. Hol the sensor swith down and check for paper clips or staples in the roller/shredding teath. Good Luck and use a match book on the switch to wedge it..

ROYAL RL170MX Shredder won't shred

Did you ever put shredder oil onto the cutting blades?????
The blades can clog with paper dust and then it can't shred as many papges as it should or even jam completely...you should occasionally shred a sheet of paper with shredder oil poured onto the sheet.

Won't pull paper

Hi,

I have the same shredder with a different problem. Maybe we can help each other.

It sounds like you have paper jammed in the shredding mechanism. I've cleaned paper jams out of mine quite a few times. The first and most important step is to make sure the shredder is unplugged. Hold the unit up to look through the shredding slot. Some of the openings between the opposing shredding wheels will be filled with paper. Using a small screwdriver (narrow blade at least 3 inches long) you can gently push the paper through. It works best if you can us a pair of needle-nosed plyers to pull the paper out the other side. It takes patience, but it works. Good Luck.

My problem is that after I opened mine up, I turned it over to shake out shreds of paper. When I did this, the entire works fell out of the case and all of the wires disconnected from the 3-way switch. Can you look in yours and describe how the wires are connected to the 8 contacts on the switch. (a digital photograph would be GREAT!

I hope we can help each other.
