Thanks! Found this while searching the web for the same problem. Canon is now repairing my 5 year old camera.
SOURCE: Screen has gone white
Either your LCD is damaged or the cable connecting it to the rest of the camera is loose. I would suggest taking it to be repaired.
SOURCE: i have the canon powershot
okay 1 of 2 things is wrong i think
A) the lens or that area is broken some where
B) the screen is broken
what you need to do is send it to canon so they can tell you what the problem is
if the screens broken buy one off the internet open the camera using a eyeglass screw driver or you will strip the screws look how the screen is connector flip the switch and take out and replace you screen
the video that i have linked isn't your camera but the assembly and disassembly should be the same and so the screen changing
i cant help you if its problem A) my only advice buy a new camera if cost effective or get it repaired

Press cursor-down (marked with a one-handed clock). Use cursor-up/down to select the desired delay. You'll find full details in the "Using the Self-Timer" section of the manual (page 60 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download one at

Have you checked the display mode you're in? If you have the display set to off (to save power) and also the picture review time set to off, then you'll just see a black screen. Try pressing the 'Disp.' button below the screen when the camera is on - it should cycle through different settings with each press: Off, On, On with picture info. Similarly, in the playback mode this will show you more or less info about the picture you are viewing.
Even if the display is switched off, if you have your 'review' option in the menu set to anything other than Off (i.e. 2 seconds), then you should see the picture you've taken appear on the screen straight after taking it.
If it's not that, then I don't know the answer....
