BCD386XT No sound. If it is actually stopping on an active broadcast and if you have the volume turned up (press down on volume button and release, then rotate to adjust) then the most likely cause is a failed speaker. Try a set of headphones in the jack on top by the antenna, if you have sound there it is most certainly a bad speaker. It is a very tiny speaker that is as thin as a nickel, many have been broken by a simple jar or by being played too loud by the hearing impaired. It is not hard to change but basic soldering skills are required. the speaker is available from uniden parts.

The cheapest solution would be to directly program the frequencies that are available in your area, usually this is public information with the exception of high security channels, you can call each location and ask them what frequency they broadcast

Doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong. Either the scanner is defective or your locale is using some kind of oddball system that's causing the noise. Take it back, show them what it's doing. If possible, try another scanner in the store and see if it does the same thing. You should be entitled to a refund, exchange, or full credit towards a different model . . .

In your manual, if you have one, if not look it up on the internet. There are ways with all these types of communications, to reset to manufacturer and factory settings at time of new purchase. Then proceed forward in programming.

Your best bet is to send it to Uniden for factory certified repair. They may charge a little more than your local electronics shop, but they will use the correct parts and give you a quality repair with a factory warranty. You can contact them here:

Hi, I am trying to program P-25 systems on my uniden bcd396xt scanner, but I cannot find the tgids to enter into the scanner. Can anyone help?

You should only have to program the CC (control channel) frequencies for P-25 systems. You should be able to pick up all talkgroups. Then you could I.D. and program only the talkgroups you want to hear.

Loaded freq per instructions scans and never stops to hear any chatter ie police and FD

The first thing I would try us to listen to the weather channels. You can get to them through the menu functions. If you can monitor a local weather channel, the scanner is working.
This is one of the first things I do. It's also a quick easy way to ensure you have a good antenna connection.
Once you verify it is working in the weather, recheck your frequencies. Start small outing a few certain agencies around you. Once they are working you can add more.

What do I do now that my county has gone digital, Does that mean that my PRO-82 is useless now or what?? DISTRISS WHAT DO I DO????

There is no way to to modify or convert your PRO-82 to read digital signals, so you'll need a new scanner to follow the action. Check out the Uniden BCD396XT (handheld), BCD996XT (base/mobile), and the new Uniden Home Patrol.

Uniden BCD396XT...........I programmed my channels with my computer. I cannot get back to them...........I will pick them up when I turn the unit on then it scans public safety............

While the unit is scanning the public service band (or other
preloaded like NEWS etc) press the Func button once, located on the left side
(the top one). Now within one second press the L/O button twice. This
permanently locks out that system. Pressing the L/O button only once will lock
out that band only until the next time you turn the scanner on, then it will be

Uniden scanner will not scan

Mine did the same thing. I installed ARC-XT-PRO software from BuTel, deleted all factory programming from the scanner, then downloaded/programmed everything I wanted from The BCD396XT and BCD996XT are fantastic scanners, but you have to beat them into submission before they will do what you want them to.

Handheld scanner/preprogramed frequencies

You sure confused me . . .
My recently purchased BCD396XT came with a mind of its own - not matter what I did, it would only scan the preprogrammed systems in Alaska. That didn't do much for me here in Texas, so I had to beat the thing into submission. First I installed BuTel programming software, then I deleted ALL the factory programming. Finally, I used the software to download and program what I wanted from the database at The scanner does exactly what I want it to.
