How do I remove the bottom cover on powermate #26412690 to replace belt?

I have purchased a replacement belt at local Sears. Salesman could not remove foot cover and I can't figure it out either. There are no visable screws or latches, etc., to remove the plastic cover on the bottom of the beater bar foot. I bought this 25 yrs ago and no longer have manual...

Squeeze in on each side of the cover with the headlight lense to remove it. There are two screws under the cover you will need to remove. Then flip the power nozzle over and insert a screwdriver between the base and top cover on the left and right sides to release the catch to remove the top cover to get to the belt.

Kenmore canisteer vacuum model 116 52513202 belt replace. I can't get the top cover off the powermate to replace the belt.

If you remove the headlight cover you will find two screws that need to be removed, than flip the power nozzle over and you will find a little catch on each side of the cover, if you pull or pry the cover out a little the cover can be removed from the nozzle housing.

How can I access the roller belt in Kenmore Powermate 116 53313305? with no screws. Does the entire black half separate from the blue half?

If there are no screws on the underside (like mine) you need to remove the top light cover. There are tabs on either side that need to be pressed in so it pops out. Under the light cover there are two screws located in the center. Remove those and the blue and black components should come right off.

If you press on either side of the raised top light cover it will come off. Then you will be able to see the light bulb and two screw heads. Remove the two screws and the top cover of the power brush will lift off and you will be able to access the belt. You can find this belt you need here:

Wish to remove bottom ofpowerhead-Kenmore Progressive 11629912990

I have a whispertone vacuum, different model #, but maybe instructions will be the same. Turns out I didn't need a new belt, just clean out the crud and reset overload protector. The instructions in the manual tell you to remove the light cover and bulb first. To do this, press in and lift both sides. Push in and turn bulb counterclockwise to remove. (you need to do this because the next step involves turning the unit over). This takes you to
Step 2. Unscrew the cover screws ( on either side of bulb).
Step 3. Turn unit over. To remove cover, insert screwdriver at cover tabs on both sides and twist to release tabs.
Step. 4 Turn unit right side up. Press handle release pedal and lower the swivel. Tilt cover forward from back until front snaps free.
Step 5. Carefully insert and twist screwdriver at each brush support to free brush from base.
Step 6. Remove worn belt.
Step 7. Slide brush supports off to check and clean brush support areas.

To replace belt: slide washers and brush supports onto brush assembly.
Install new belt over motor drive, then over brush sprocket.
Snap brush supports into place on base. Be sure brush supports are not upside down.
Line up front of cover and base. Rest cover on front edge of base. Tilt cover to back. Press cover firmly until side tabs snap into place. Replace cover screws, light bulb and light cover.

The beater won't turn

Un-plug the vacuum.

Turn the vacuum cleaner over and pop off or unscrew the bottom plate. The most common things are broken belt, clogged beater bar (usually hair), bad beater bar bearings, or the beater bar and belt is just plain worn out and needs replacing. If the brush nubs are very worn, replacing the belt alone won't help much.

Clean as much debris, hair etc as possible out of the unit. If you have a can of air like the type used to clean computer key boards, blow out the area and the motor if possible. Do this in a ventilated area or somewhere where it will not mess up your house.

I have a Hoover self-propelled Windtunnel, purchased 6-04. It gets light use. I have replaced the v belt 3 times, once under warranty, and it must be replaced again. It appears to be in very good condition, but is stretched too big. When I purchased 2 v belts a year ago, one was already too stretched, but when my Dad took it back, the salesman put it on another model and said it was fine (Dad never mentioned this to me). Is there a way to adjust the vacuum to hold the belt tighter? Do they really just stretch out like that normally? The flat belt has never been replaced and is in great condition.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. It is a good idea to change your flat belt every 4 to 6 months as a rule and the V belts @ least once a year and always use the genuine Hoover belts, there are generic or replacement belts out there but they have a tendency to stretch faster then the genuine belts. What you mentioned is not unheard of and another tip is to store any extra belts in a Ziploc bags in the refrigerator. Feel free to contact your local vac dealer if you have questions or call Hoover factory and ask for tech support. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
