I love this cam because it works great with AIM which is on of my instant messengers that I use almost every day. I also use Windows Live Messenger and it does not work for some reason. When I am chatting with friend and family, it keeps giving me this error saying "We couldn't start your camera device. Please check that your camera is not currently in use by another program, and then try again". I have unplugged my quick cam 9000 and plugged it back in and it still says that error. I check to see if anything else was connected to my cam, but nothing was currently in use. I have tried looking at my Windows Live Messenger settings and tried to open audio and video setup and it keeps saying "we are unable to run audio and video setup". I searched online to see if there was a driver for this specific Windows Live Messenger, and other info I could find. I found that many other people are having the same problem. Please help.
I can see my picture on the audio and video settings but it comes up with a red x when i try to send my cam to someone on windows live

See section C. Windows Live
Messenger in the info below to setup the Audio & Video.
Also send this to your family
and friends so they have their computer setup properly.
Web Camera’s have to be
setup on the program they are to be used with.
Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to
broadcast on messengers or Skype.
Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for
the Audio and Video to function properly.
A. Skype Setup:
After downloading and installing Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/windows/beta/downloading/)
set it up as follows:
The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to
see and her to you.

NOTE: Your audio and
video should work. Enjoy.
When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so
you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope
this helps. Bud

Broadband will work better and smoother for sure. If the cam has a mic, then it would work for almost any chat system you can get. You will get both video and audio.
SOURCE: Won't work with AIM instant messenger; won't install
AIM is having problems with video. Try Skype or another messenger to communicate with Family and Friends. Here is info to setup Audio and Video. Send on to them also.

I experienced the same problem and it happended when I downloaded the newest version of Widows Live Messenger 2009 Build 14.0.8064.206. Up to that point the camera worked perfectly. I'm still looking for solution.
Same problem. WLM2009 will not allow me to set up my audio/video tools.
