Where is the IR board located on this TV? Current theory is that the main board is bad. TV powers on, makes chime sound, then resets {and repeats}. IR remote does nothing other than make the red LED on the front of the set flash. A month ago it would do the above but sometimes after a few resets it would either work normally, display a garbage picture or emit a screaming sound. Tech was able to fix (for 2 months) by removing and reconnecting the connector (on the main board) going to the IR board. He also replaced the capacitors, though claimed they were good. Now it constantly resets. I've left it for 10 minutes and it loops resetting. Latest tech says it's main board but their repair cost is way too high, so I'm sending the main board off for repair. I'm curious if I should also include the IR board and cable that connects to the main board? The repair shop isn't being very helpful in making this determination. If I should, I need to know where it's located. I think it plugs into the 10 pin connector on the bottom right corner of the main board and is located in the lower left corner of the TV (when viewing from the rear). Anyone any suggestions?
SOURCE: Samsung TV won't turn on- trying to fix it. A challenging problem
I had the same problem. I live in NJ and called the local authorized "service provide" listed on the Samsung website. What a joke. Quoted $350 just to show up, never showed up. So I opened my own TV. Took off the plastic back (10 screws) took off the large metal RF shield (12-14 screws) and noticed a blown component. The markings on the component were KL15L and it is apparently an NTC Thermistor. Obviously it got fried and not knowing if there was other damage I decided to set out to replace the entire Power PCB Board Assembly and not the component. There were two part numbers on the assembled board (BN97-00457E & BN94-00622E). After searching online I also found a suitable replacement number for these (BN96-04896A). I found two places who claimed to have the part or have it on order (shopjimmy.com and vancebaldwin.com). After placing orders with both and having neither come through, I broadened my search and found out that the LNR409D was basically the same model as my LNR408D so I looked for its Power PCB Board Assembly part number which turned out to be BN41-00521B. Google search for that part number showed the item available on ebay. I bought it a week ago (ebay 260311519904) for $144 plus $12 shipping. I removed the bad board an hour ago (6 screws about 7 connectors) installed the new one, plugged in the connectors, replaced the covers, plugged in the TV... AND IT WORKS!
Suggestion: If your TV is out of warranty then open it up (what have you got to lose) and see if the problem is obvious and maybe something you can fix (replace) yourself. The parts, spare boards, etc. are out there if you look.
SOURCE: Bottom half of the screen is black on Samsung HP-R5072 50 in. HDTV Plasma Television
I have a solution. My Samsung plasma had the same problem with the bottom half of the screen being black. Follow these directions and it will not cost you a dime, just some time. I took the back panel of the tv. I found the lower buffer board on the left hand side. I disconnect all the ribbon cables. Use an air cleaner to spray out any dust on the ribbon connection and the board. I connect the ribbons back to the board. My plasma is now as good as new. If you have issue with the top portion, do the same with the upper buffer board. I was going to buy a new tv but I'm glad I gave this a shot first. It's been almost a month and it's still working fine. Hope this helps and hope it saves you some money.

My T.V. did the same thing and it was due to bad capacitors on the power supply board. the tops of the capacitors were bulged, once replaced it worked fine. It involves sodering in new capacitors total cost $30. that includes buying the sodering tool. Keep looking around on line someone had pictures step by step how to do it.

To all who are having power supply issues: Samsung is now acknowledging a problem with faulty capacitors. I called 1 800 726-7864 and they said they would repair certain out-of-warranty TVs if the problem is related to the capacitors. I just called and they are sending a service rep out to diagnose the problem.
