Need to know how to program the baofeng uv-5r

The software to program the radio is different for the UV-6 then the UV-5R. check this out.

use Chirp & program them in, its that simple

Press Menu button, then scroll with Up and Down buttons until you find the setting you need. Press Menu Button again and cursor will move down to the settings. Use Up/Down buttons to adjust the settings and then press Menu button to save and exit .

The Baofeng manuals are terrible. Look online for "Baofeng UV-5R programming" Setting up and programming your UV 5R

Please. Your question got truncated in the title, and was not asked in the details. So I have you asking, "However, when I..." and that this is occurring on your UV5R. Please respond with details and I will try to help you. I own the UV5R+.

There is an excellent owner's manual for the BaoFeng at Miklor.com/uv5r/userguide.

CHIRP (Chinese Radio Programming) software is available free online. Also, search for "MIKLOR". They have great manuals for Baofeng UV5R manual online.

Don't know what software you used but try looking up a program called Chirp on the internet and use it to progran the radio. The program gets updated a lot. It has worked well for a large group of us. Is the battery fully charged?

Sounds like you have the transmit lockout set. this radio is a bit of a pain to program, but is well worth the effort. your best bet is save your settings (backup) and do a full factory reset, and start over, making sure you did not lock out the transmit on any channel or VFO...

That is outside the 140-174 range of the radio. It cannot be programmed in this radio.
