Take a can of air and blow some onto the laser of the drive so that way you know for sure its not dust or dirt on the laser that is causing it not to read.
After you do that if the drive still won't read any discs then you know the drive is bad and it'll have to be replaced.

SOURCE: Gigabyte GA-7DX+ won't power up. Checked

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive boot up

test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty ?

even something as small as an electrical extension or a faulty fan lead can cause this problem computer needs all of the data and power to travel through every working device and to have an end for a computer to be able work properly

a motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive check all electrical extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd drives need to have current go through make sure these devices are working

could be a dirty graphics card you might have remove the graphics card and clean the socket

also check your computer ram and cmos battery to make sure they are securely seated and the battery has plenty of charge Cmos battery on some motherboards are soldered in

hope this helps you

SOURCE: can i upgrade my packard bell 5090 motherboard?

No. And old isn't what your PC is......it's ancient. Packard Bell machines from that era were in proprietary cases, making upgrades difficult if not impossible. Additionally, the power supply will probably be underpowered and will may not have the correct power connectors for modern mainboards . It's time to part with the old relic and get a new one.

If I where looking for this, I'd hit up yellowpages.com and look for all computer shops, antique malls, pawnshops and flea markets in the area and start making calls to see if they have antiquated technology laying around.

I, personally, love tinkering around with these old machines. It's been a hobby since they where new! lol And I'm a pawn broker, so I'd be one shop that may have what you need. (I don't, unfortunately, I looked.) And you'd be shocked what all you can find for a quarter at a flea market or an antique mall.

You can remove or change the Window's User or administrator's password. You need access to a computer with Internet access to download the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot up the laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CD which contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removal program. The number and timing of beeps will tell you what's wrong. You'll have to find the motherboard manual to find what the beeps mean though. Would be worth taking the RAM chips out, blowing any dust away and putting them back in.

can you be more specific as to the actual text? Also you should press F2 or whatever key is your bios hotkey and check your boot order. Make sure that the hard drive is your first boot device. it actually kind of sounds like you have a cd in the drive and it's trying to boot from it. please physically verify that there are no discs in the drive.

I want to reformat PB MS2303

Packard Bell is a computer manufacturer, now owned by Acer. Restoring your computer will erase the hard drive and install a fresh copy of Microsoft Windows. This is beneficial if the Packard Bell is showing its age and running extremely slow or has been hit with an incurable virus infection. Before attempting to restore the system, be sure to back up any data you wish to save.

1.Insert the Windows Setup CD/DVD into the computer's optical drive. The disc will have been included with the Packard Bell computer.

2.Restart the computer with the disc inserted. A black screen will appear when the disc is detected, displaying "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD..." Press any key on the keyboard to launch the Windows installer. The "Install Windows" screen will appear.

3.Click "Next."

4.Select "I accept the license terms" and click "Next."

5.Click "Custom" when asked what type of installation you'd like. The other option is "Upgrade," but in order to restore your Packard Bell system to its factory settings, you must reformat the hard drive.

6.Click "Drive Options" when asked where to install Windows. Select the C: drive and click "Erase." Select the unallocated space after it has been erased, and click "Format." Format the space using the "NTFS" file system.

7.Click "Next" and Windows will begin reinstalling on the Packard Bell's hard drive. The system will reboot when finished and launch into your newly restored Packard Bell.

Packard bell itreme 1908 will not restore from maufactures disk

Rob: Do you mean compact disc, or diskette?

If it is a diskette ("Floppy"), there is a chance that the information on the diskette is fried and useless.

If, however, it is a CD? When was the last time you cleaned your CD drive? It does need to be cleaned, best once a month. The "cleaner" is actually a CD with tiny brushes on it that clean the optics in the CD drive.

The CD itself could also be fried (badly scratched, dirty, or even heat damaged).
