To get local over the air channels, you will need to connect an antenna as your signal source instead of Cable on the back of the set. Then you will have to go into the TV menu for signal source and select the Antenna/air option. Then you will have to go to the auto program/scan menu and scan in the stations. This may take a few minutes.
Now you can watch local stations for free.
I believe the FCC "must carry" rule require cable to carry local stations also.

SOURCE: unable to receive local channels

According to the manual for the 42LC2D it should be able to receive local channels through a normal analogue antenna connected to the anntenna/cable coax input connector. You can get the manual here http://us.lge.com/download/product/file/1000001586/60PC1D-UE.pdf

SOURCE: How do we make my TV capable of receiving regular

You would have to hook up an external TV antenna on the UHF/VHF band and run a coaxial cable from the antenna to the TV and plug in the "Belling-Lee" connector into the "Antenna" socket at rear of unit.. This should enable reception via "Normal TV"

What do i need to get regular channels on the tv

How to get regular TV channels?
Your HDTV should have a digital TV Tuner (ATSC) which may need an indoor antenna. Change your TV's input selector to TV or Antenna or Digital (probably one of those three) and scan for channels. If you don't get any channels, then you do need an antenna. Probably another $10.

I HAVE A SUMSUNG THAT IS HD, BUT IT'S NOT HDMI,i GET REGULAR CHANNELS, BUT WHEN I SWITH TO A HD CHANNEL, IT IS ALL SCRAMBLED? WHY?

I assume you have cable. The cable HD and digital channels are usually sent in Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM). The cable companies are required to send local channels in the clear but not so for any others. Regular (basic) channels may be clear or scrambled. USA many not be but HBO will be.
So you have 1 of 2 problems: (1) your TV does not do QAM or (2) they have scrambled the channels you want to see. Questions: (1) Have tried direct Over-the-Air (OTA, ATSC) reception for your locals? (2) Can you see the HD local channels on cable? (3) Are you paying for an HD box from the cable company to have the channels decoded? If in doubt contact the cable company.
Current Samsung TVs do do QAM and OTA HD. Alternatives are Dish or Direct to get satellite with an HD receiver using HDMI or 5-cable RCA. Costs are comparable but OTA wins, hands down. -Ken

Switching singnal

If you are using an antenna or regular cable without a cable box, put the tv on an analog channel. Go into the menu. Select the middle icon at the top of the screen. Go down to the TV/CABLE line. Select either TV (for antenna) or CABLE (for regular cable) on the right. Go down to AUTO CH MEMORY and press the volume+ (right arrow) button. Wait for the channel search screen to clear. Check all of your channels using the channel up button until you come back to the channel you started on.

Not receiving my local cable stations

You need to make sure the TV is set for "cable" tuning and not "standard" or "air." (If you are getting only local off-air channels and no cable stations at all, be sure you have a good cable and connection to the set. Normally, even if the TV is set for "air" you will get the low-number cable channels 2-13.) This is usually a selection through the TV's set-up menu. With a universal remote, it may be difficult or even impossible to get to all the menu entries. Most replacement remotes don't support all the original remote functions. Try with yours and good luck. Once you get the TV set to the proper tuning, you should have all your cable channels.

SYLVANIA LC200SL8 ? 20" LCD-TV Settup up channel setup

This is the chanel set up options I see on the online manual:
- CHANNEL SETUP -
ADD/DELETE(DTV)
AUTO PRESET CH(DTV)
AUTO PRESET CH(TV/DTV)
AUTO PRESET CH(CATV)
! CATV takes approx. 50min.
To set up for over the air broadcast that local channels now have in HDTV, you will select AUTO PRESET CH(DTV). You will have to disconnect cable for this option; however, the cable company will send local channels over the cable.
Bottom line, if you have cable, use it, it will most likely still deliver the best signal.
So coonect cable and use this option:
AUTO PRESET CH(CATV)
Oh, and the reason it takes so long is because there are more channels to scan with cable then with the local over the air channels.

Television only locates 7 channels????!!!!!

Hi there!
If you cannot receive all channels it may be a fault with the antenna or the tuner may be faulty. If you have a VCR, you can tune that into the TV first and then tune the VCR to see if you then receive all channels. If so, use the VCR position on the TV to view and select or change channels on the VCR only. Good Luck,JUS004
