Universal remote codes can vary depending on the brand and model of the remote control you are using. TCL TVs are often compatible with various universal remotes, and you can typically find the codes in the remote's manual or on the manufacturer's website. However, if you don't have access to the manual, you can try the following steps to find the code:
1. **Automatic Code Search:**
- Turn on your TCL TV.
- Point the universal remote at the TV.
- Press and hold the "Code Search" or "Setup" button on the remote until the LED light turns on.
- Press the "TV" (or another applicable) button on the remote.
- The LED light should blink once and then stay solid.
- Press the "Power" button repeatedly until the TV turns off.
- Once the TV turns off, press the "Enter" or "OK" button on the remote to save the code.
2. **Manual Code Entry:**
- Find the code list that came with your universal remote or check the manufacturer's website for a list of codes.
- Turn on your TCL TV.
- Press and hold the "Code Search" or "Setup" button on the remote until the LED light turns on.
- Enter the first code for TCL TVs from the list using the number buttons on the remote.
- If the LED light blinks, check if the TV responds to the remote (try turning it off and on).
- If the TV does not respond, repeat the process with the next code until you find the correct one.
3. **Manufacturer's Support:**
- Visit the website of the universal remote's manufacturer and check if they provide code lists or support for TCL TVs.
- You may find an online tool or database to help you find the correct code for your TCL TV model.
Remember that not all universal remotes are compatible with all TV models, so it may take some trial and error to find the correct code. If none of the codes work, you may need to contact the manufacturer of your universal remote for further assistance.
If your TCL TV is continuously going into setup mode every time it is turned on, it can be frustrating. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:
1. Power Cycle: Turn off the TV and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 1-2 minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on. This simple power cycle can sometimes help reset the TV's settings and resolve minor glitches.
2. Factory Reset: Perform a factory reset on your TCL TV. Keep in mind that this will erase all customized settings and return the TV to its original factory settings. To do this, navigate to the TV's settings menu (if possible) and look for an option to perform a factory reset. Refer to the user manual for specific instructions on how to access the settings menu and perform the reset.
3. Check Remote Control: Ensure that there are no stuck buttons or issues with the remote control. Sometimes, a stuck button can cause the TV to enter setup mode. Remove the batteries from the remote control and try turning on the TV using the buttons on the TV itself. If the issue resolves, you may need to replace or repair the remote control.
4. Software Update: Check if there are any available software updates for your TCL TV. Visit the TCL support website and search for your TV model to see if there are any firmware updates available. Updating the TV's software can help fix bugs and improve overall performance.
5. Contact TCL Support: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's recommended to contact TCL customer support for further assistance. They can provide you with specific troubleshooting steps for your TV model or advise on potential hardware issues that may require professional repair.
When contacting customer support, provide them with the model number, a detailed description of the issue, and any troubleshooting steps you have already attempted. This information will help them assist you more effectively.

If you don't have a code you can do these steps to get your universal remote working with pretty much any tv:
1.) Turn your TV on. Then on your remote press the set button, it's the small gray button above the green button that says TV.
2.) Press the TV button. There should be a red light to the right of the SET button. This means that your remote is ready for the TV code.
3.) To find the TV code, press the + or - on your remote. This is located above the orange buttons. Once the volume on your TV goes up or down, stop pressing the + or - button.
4.) Then press the SET button again to set that code for your TV.
If the above steps do not work, keep trying. It will work! ;)
