Some history: The digital display has been erratic lately. It would display 150 degrees then momentarily display 60 and you could hear the heating relays click, then suddenly it went to 160 and the heaters would shut off. Next thing you know, the machine quits. Both glass fuses on the main board (the 1,5 amp fuses) were blown. Replace them and the machine works normally now but the heaters don't engage since the display always reads 255 degrees. Do I need a new board and where is the temperature sensor and how do I test it? During the rinse cycle, the temperature displays the sanitizing water temperature correctly (about 185 degrees) but after that, it goes back to 255. Feels like a sensor problem to me but this is my first Hobart Problem. Any pointers?
The thermistor in your float and probe assembly or it's associated wiring is shorted.
You are right! Sort of: After some very careful circuit tracing, I discovered that the leads of the thermistor and the float were reversed during one of our maintenance sessions! The connectors are identical so this is not out of the question. We reversed them and now everything works fine. Thanks for your help. This is a great site but when you are in a commercial kitchen it is hard to wait 2 months for an answer. We worked on it a while and got it up and running in a day. Had to. Thanks again!

Based on the information you provided, it is possible that the temperature sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced. The temperature sensor is typically located near the heating elements or inside the water tank. To test the sensor, you will need a multimeter to measure its resistance. Disconnect the sensor from the circuit board and measure its resistance at room temperature. The resistance should be within a certain range, as specified by the manufacturer. If the resistance is outside the range, then the sensor is likely faulty and needs to be replaced.
It is also possible that the circuit board is faulty and needs to be replaced. However, before replacing the circuit board, it may be worth checking all the connections and wiring to ensure that they are properly connected and not damaged.
If you are unsure about how to perform these tests or do not feel comfortable working with electrical components, it is recommended that you seek the assistance of a qualified technician or repair service. They will be able to diagnose and repair the problem safely and effectively.

"temperature sensor for booster heater"? Do you mean the thermostat? If so, part number is 274161.

Update: Just checked my temp sensor to make sure it is working and getting a signal all the way to the board. Everything is in order and all problems point to the main circuit board. Looks like I will be ordering one.
