My 1997 plymouth grand voyager air conditioner is not blowing cold air. It only blows out hot air and when i turn a/c off, i start smelling a burning scent coming through the vent. How can i fix th problem so that my a/c can be able to blow cold air when turned on snowball. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT TO DO TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.
The likely cause is a bad compressor clutch, but there are other possible causes. The first thing to do is to observe the compressor with the engine running. The clutch is inside the pulley. When the a/c is off, the pulley turns on thr belt, but the clutch does not turn. When the a/c is turned on, the clutch should lock on the pulley and turn with it. Run this test and post the result here.

You have a shorted engine harness, this is not common but it does happen, heat and engine movement cause damage to the harness, this is most common on hi miler cars and vans, the only way to fix it is to start by looking anywhere the harness rubs, that is where the damage occurs.

U have a AC refrigerant leak, that is why it worked for a week after the system was topped off, now it has leaked out again.
check your coolant leval. and have the thermostat replace if the collant is ok in the radiator and holding tank

if the a/c compressor clutch is not engaging, you will never have any cold air. if the system has too much or too little freon in it, that will also mess it up. If system is undercharged, the compressor will short cycle, instead of staying on till the thermostat tells it to disengage. I suspect your problem is in the compressor and that is where i would look first.
SOURCE: The heater in my 1995 PLymouth voyager mini van is
with the engine warmed up + the heater on fan off check the heater control valve make sure it's not
physicaly damaged then have somone turn the heat
on+off if it is vacum controled pull vac line make sure you have vacum+it starts and stops if it is mechanical you can see if it works or not still the
best test is to pull the valve + blow through it if it's
vacum leave the line on to open and close it
if the valve works it is most likely a pluged heater
core. if you're gonna DIY stop by the library and
check out a chilton/moter/mitchells or haynes
repair manual or you can go to any auto parts store
and buy the haynes repair manual specific to your
car for about $10.00 any of these books will give
you the step by steps and diagrams you need to
do the job. hope this helps any other ? gimme a
shout good luck
