I've used it many times in the past. I have about 20 gigs of music on it.

i have the same problem and dont know how to fix it

On mine the red light is stuck and a few seconds after I turn it on it begins to make a malignant sound, like a bomb about to explode...seriously. Computer doesn't detect any trace of the drive nor my entrapped data.

WTF, the website seems fishy to me anyways since I cant find a single way to actually call and talk to a real live human tech rep except for their office somewhere in Ontario, CA.

    Once again WTF?

Is this a new drive or have you used it before?

I have this happen when the connection is not fully inserted. Mine fits badly so I use rubber bands to hold it in. I wonder if this is how it was designed to be, since both my eSATA AcomData drives are like this.

I would say take the drive out and if you have SATA connectors on your motherboard, connect it directly to you computer and see if the computer will recognize it.  If it does, your enclosure is bad.

My PDHD1000 hard drive starts but does not boot up and connect to my computer like it used to.

You have a usb controller board that is malfunctioning and it or the case for the usb hard drive needs to be replaced.
the power regulator that is built into the usb controller is not working therefore the usb logic circuit cannot transmit the signal to the PC viia the USB port and will not recognize the device. You can order or purchase a new case that will accommodate the hard drive from your local computer store.

External hardrive not recognized

Try a different cable between the computer and the drive.

Disassemble the casing, and remove the "internal" disk-drive.
If the USB-to-disk-drive adapter has "died", it's possible that the
disk-drive itself is intact, and your data will be intact.

Connect the "internal" disk-drive as a "slave" drive in a desktop computer, and see if it can be detected.

If it's dead, and it's still under warranty, then exercise the warranty.

Acomdata 1TB external drive

I have the same exact drive (I'm assuming as it's the same make/size since I don't have a model number) and what you need to do is turn the drive off and let it cool down. The drive is not well vented and it tends to over heat. I would get in the habit of turning the drive off whenever you're not using it because of this problem.
