However last month I found that the Maxtor is no longer recognisable to my machine. Reading through related postings on other sites it appears that Vista updates from Microsoft may be the reason why this functionality has suddenly ceased. I presume the security updates in particular may have meant that the Maxtor 3200 is also considered a potential threat. The question is who will take responsibility for resolving this issue of Maxtor 3200 users no longer being able to access their back up files via their Vista based machines. Personally I believe the onus is with Microsoft
For Vista you don't need any driver for this, it should recognize and install automatically. Did you check the device manager to see if the disk is recognized in the device list?
Next step is to check the Disk Manager (right-click My Computer, select Manage and then select disk management), and see if the disk already has a partition and has been formatted. If not, then it will not show up in "My Computer" with a drive letter yet.
Hey guys I had the same problem... All the drivers for the device are inside the harddrive. Maxtor doesn't have any because you don't need any. What they've neglected to let any of us know is the power supply provided with the unit isn't powerful enough to run it. Replace the original power supply with another one and this will solve the problem. I replaced mine with an old laptops power supply, the fit was alittle tight but believe me it works.
