My Gateway FRD22" widescreen monitor won't display. Was working fine and then one day I moved the mouse to disengage te screen saver and the screen faded to black . The"On" switch won't stay on, either. Upon boot up it is"on" then goes to hybernate and then to amber or "sleep" mode. I have reconneted an older monitor to the computer and haveful display, do it is not the video card or connections. The 22" screen is operable, because is diplays the Gateway logo troughout boot up. It just won't disply anything else after boot. No desktop display, no nothing. Briefly will, on occassion, show desktop, then shuts down after about 5 seconds. Any help?

If you see a message box that says "Power Saving Mode" after pressing the power button, then it simply means that the monitor/display is not detecting the computer. Check the connection/cable between the display and the computer and make sure your computer is not in standby mode by moving your mouse. From what you stated in your problem, you dont need a inverter or a bulb. If you have any image like the message box displayed then its working fine. It just isnt seeing any signal changes on the input and therefore goes into power saving mde. Try another cable or hook it up to a different computer to check the cable.
Yes you can adjust the screen .For that go display property in start->controlpanel. Then set scree resolution to 1024*768 then apply and ok. Then display is fine. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.
Usually hitting a button on the keyboard or moving the mouse works.
If it is really a problem go into your display settings through the control panel, access the power options and stop your monitor from going into powersave mode.
If this is still under warranty, then Gateway (MPC) can repair this. Probably you homeowners insurance will pay for it. Make sure that the monitor data cable is plugged in correctly. Whenever we have storm my wife unplugs all the cables on the computer. Sometimes when we reconnect they get plugged into an inactive port, thus no pic. If none of these help then please contact me at [email protected] and we can discuss a repair plan.
It could be a faulty power cord. Try plugging it in and moving the cord around in the areas where it takes the most movement. Do the same with the data cable to see if you get a response there. If your cables are fine, the problem is most likely hardware in the monitor - in that case you're better off replacing the monitor.
Is this an inverter issue with the display? Is it worth fixing. Yes, and yes.
If it is still under warranty have Gateway fix it.
If not
Go on Ebay and you may find the part cheap.
I have a Philips 30 inch LCD and solved the problem by using the circular arrow button on the TV remote. Pointing it at the TV and clicking "right" (3 o'clock on the button), the picture moved right. Same thing on for "left". Worked for me.
