My son has a playstation 3 and can access in the internet on it, but keeps losing the connection to the playstation network while playing games. I have a Linksys router (WRT54GS) on the main computer, and that's what his playstation 3 is feeding from. We have no trouble getting an internet connection on his Dell laptop, or his playstation internet but gaming is cutting off and on.
Linksys loves to ship their routers with out-dated firmware. If you haven't updated the firmware of your router, that would be the first thing I'd do. From what I've read about routers and PS3, a lot of routers had trouble when they came out but had firmware updates to resolve the problem.
You'll need to go to the below link and select your version to get firmware downloads specific to your Model router and version number. The version number is listed on the bottom of your router next to the model.

Be sure to read up on how to update the firmware and be sure you only update the firmware from a computer connected via WIRED connection to the router. Doing it wirelessly will cause disconnection from the router mid update and will cause your router to become a paper-weight!

The above link is a good website to find out a lot of information about Linksys routers and how to secure/update/configure them.
Make sure your wireless Internet connection is active and at full strength. Unplug the PS3's Ethernet cable if it is plugged into the system.
Turn on the Playstation 3 game console and select "Network Settings" under the "Settings" option in the main menu.
Select the "Internet Connection Settings" tab and select "Yes" when the system displays a new screen saying you will be disconnected from the Internet.
Select "Easy" on the next screen that asks what type of installation you want to use.
Select "Wireless" when it asks you what type of Internet connection you have.
Select "Scan" on the next screen. The system will search for all available Internet connections in the area.
Select your home Internet connection when the screen pops up displaying the available Internet options. Select your security settings and enter your encryption key. Save your settings.
Test the connection by selecting the "Test Connection" option. If the connection has been made, your network information will appear on the screen.

Called my local internet provider today, they came out and put a new cable modem in, and so far everything is working great for my son and me. Thanks for the link to update my router. I've not used it yet since all is ok, but I'm sure I'll need it. Again, thanks!!!
